Whether you’re going with a festival style wedding with tipis and hay bales, or a fairytale woodland setting, or vintage Great Gatsby, or full on Game of Thrones themed wedding, these 5 ever-so-easy top tips will work well to modernise your day for a tech savvy wedding.

I wouldn’t consider myself to be a tech savvy person by any stretch of the imagination. I was one of the last of my friends to own a mobile phone (and I still harbour suspicions that my Smartphone is a bit smarter than I am!) but nowadays I get excited at new hashtags that show me inspiring wedding images on Instagram and Pinterest!

I’ve put together some of the easiest options for you to modernise your wedding and make it tech savvy in ways that will help you as well as impress your guests. When I say easy, I figured, if I could do it, anyone could do it. And the best thing about most of these tips is that they can be done no matter what kind of wedding you are going for.

Tip 1: Create a Social Media Hashtag

If you haven’t started using Instagram yet, there is no better time to start than now! An easy way to ensure you can see all the fab photos your friends and family have been taking during your wedding day is by creating a fun and original hashtag that sums you up as a couple.

Keep it short and snappy and use quirky ways to remind everyone to use it on the day. Include it on your invitations, print it on napkins, use cute little picture frames or pieces of slate that suit your theme and place them at key points where people will notice it throughout the day.

Another fun idea would be to make an actual Instagram account dedicated to your wedding. You can document the hen and stags, getting ready, the big day and even the honeymoon. If you were feeling really tech savvy (and brave) you could even try out Instagram Live – it elevates the classic selfie to a whole new level!

Tip Two: Personalise a Wedding Website

Personalising your website is becoming an increasingly popular way to easily keep your guests up to date on your wedding plans and appear to be tech savvy at the same time. It can be a one stop shop for everything, from directions to the ceremony, online RSVP options, links for places to stay and also a platform to gather and share an amazing collection of images from your day.

Tip Three: Put a GoPro in your wedding bouquet.

As a Celebrant, I am perhaps a little biased in thinking that the ceremony is the most important part of the day. I craft my ceremonies to be full of feeling and to evoke emotions and create memories.
By putting a GoPro in your wedding bouquet, you will end up with a totally unique viewpoint as you are walking down the aisle.

Watching the bride or groom walk down the aisle is, hands down, one of my favourite moments in the ceremony. It’s so charged with emotion and it’s the starting point of what is usually an amazing day for everyone there. All the heartfelt expressions of love and good vibes emanating from the faces of your friends and family as you walk down that aisle will be captured by the GoPro. And of course you will really get to record the reaction of your partner as they wait for you to arrive beside them so that you can speak your promises of love to each other. What a perfect time to be tech savvy and it couldn’t be easier. You might want to practice this a bit beforehand though just to make sure you get it right on the day.

Tip Four: Have Alexa read out your table plan

Table plans can be a bit of a nightmare for some people. If you have an Alexa at home and one of you is tech savvy enough to manage to give it instructions without too much difficulty, you should seriously consider giving Alexa your guest list and table plan. Set it up so that your guests simply say their name and Alexa gives them their table number. It doesn’t get much easier than that and your guests will be very impressed with your modern ways!

Tip Five: Unique drone footage

Many people wonder whether or not they should hire a videographer for their day. It’s a very personal choice but I would say to people when budgeting that they should spend their money on the things that will last and that are going to both create and preserve memories that will last a lifetime. So for me that would be a resounding ‘yes’ to the videographer.

I would further suggest to seriously consider one who uses a drone to get the most amazing footage of your day from a very unique perspective. Some of the shots that I’ve seen are quite simply breathtaking and this is something that you will always be able to look back on yourselves as will the generations to follow you. In this instance you don’t have to know anything about drones yourself, just be savvy and hire the pro who knows how to use this technology, and who has a good eye with a  style and price to suit you budget.
