Do we exchange rings and vows again during the ceremony?

Do we exchange rings and vows again during the ceremony? It is entirely up to you! A renewal of vows ceremony is a personalised celebration and commitment (again!) to your life partner. You can choose to exchange rings and vows again during the ceremony or not!

Many couples decide to re-exchange the same rings but some couples choose to add new ones. Sometimes couples like to buy each other a new piece of jewellery, or just the renewing of promises is enough. It’s entirely your choice and what you feel most comfortable with; what best suits your style as a couple.

As well as the content, the order of the ceremony is also totally flexible and having regular contact with your chosen celebrant means that you not only get to know them, thus making it more significant on the day as you have a relationship with the person officiating, but also the ceremony will be delivered in exactly the way you want it to be.

How can we exchange rings during the ceremony?

Often, couples exchanging the same rings will have something new engraved onto the ring; perhaps the date of the renewal or a meaningful message or symbol for their other half. On the other hand, you could exchange an entirely new ring; one with a different promise altogether.

As part of the ring exchange, you could include a ring-warming / ring blessing. This is a symbolic ritual where rings are passed around and blessed by your loved ones.

How can we exchange vows during the ceremony?

The way in which you choose to exchange vows will largely depend on your reason for renewing your vows in the first place.

If you have been through a significant change in your life, you may want to include reference to this in your vows. However, it may mean more to you to repeat the same vows given at your original wedding ceremony.

If it feels appropriate, have fun with your vow renewal ceremony! There are no legal restrictions and you have already officially married your partner, so why not throw in a few more ‘realistic’ vows to the ceremony?

Whatever you choose, your vows should feel meaningful and an authentic representation of where your love and relationship is right now, in this very moment.

Will my celebrant help me write my vows?

Your celebrant is always there to support you through writing your wedding vows, so just pop a message over to them if you get stuck. They will have had vast experience helping people just like you craft their perfect vow, and they will be happy to help.

But remember… you can do it! The message is within you, somewhere. You just need to tap into it!
