Hi, I'm Alison
Alison Read, qualified funeral celebrant trained by the Academy of Professional Celebrants. Every service I write is completely bespoke and tailored to the needs and wishes of the individual family. I am only satisfied when a family lets me know that the service I provided has been nothing less than perfect. I am there 24/7 to support you through the planning stage. I use highly skilled questioning to help you find absolute clarity about what you want to say. As a literature graduate and after 20 years of teaching English and literature, I pride myself on being able to compose services which are truly beautiful, inspirational and full of meaning. We will plan together, working our way through the love, laughter, loss and legacy. We will find the right words, music, verse and poetry to celebrate what made your loved one so very special and significant. Together, we really will give them the very best good bye possible.

I bring an unwavering commitment to the family, drawing on all my literacy skills and creativity to capture your loved one’s essence and how much they mattered to you in a way that you will never forget. I bring positivity to my sense of possibility, going the extra mile to make your hopes and wishes for the service a reality, whatever they may be. I have a proven record of composing inspirational and beautiful services. I listen very carefully to what you share, piecing together the links, themes and significance. I promise a service in which you will see your loved one shine, vivid and bright. I will also provide you will a commemorative copy of the service as a keepsake and so that you can look back on the legacy of your loved one again and again.

Being a celebrant is an honour and it is a privilege to serve families at such a difficult time. Knowing you have served to perfection is, for me, the greatest gift possible.

Funerals
I am an independent funeral celebrant. I can be employed directly. I also work with funeral directors across West Yorkshire. I have also conducted funerals outside of West Yorkshire on occasions. I can also officiate at memorial services, scattering of ashes and more bespoke ceremonies at a location of your choosing.
As your funeral celebrant, we meet for 1-2 hours. At this meeting I answer questions you may have about the service, and discuss your wants and wishes. This meeting also provides important details, recounts and stories that will make up the service and eulogy. After the meeting, I draft the eulogy and Order of Service. These are then checked and revised with the client until the latter is fully satisfied. I liaise throughout the process with the funeral director and check in with the client before the day of the service to reassure them and address any last minute concerns or worries. On the day I deliver the service as agreed (no surprises or unexpected deviations from the plan) and am there to resolve any issues that might unexpectedly crop up. I also provide a written copy of the full service upon request.

Hi – just to say that I found Alison very helpful and friendly to work with. I was one of two friends of the deceased – Vic Tosh – chosen to give an eulogy and Alison’s assitance was much appreciated as regards advice, content and timing. Very easy to work with and very good on the day helping with the organisation, with welcoming people and her own spoken contribution.
