Hi, I'm Diana
My name is Di Gilbranch and I trained with Civil Ceremonies Ltd in 2017. I have achieved the National Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy which is the highest qualification for this profession in the United Kingdom.
I had previously been a pet food distributor and a weight loss counsellor for twelve years and, before that, I worked in London with the Ministry of Defence. I live with my husband, dog and cat near Colchester. I use my skills, old and new, to create and deliver personalised ceremonies that meaningfully mourn a death and bring comfort to the living.
I work closely with you and liaise with your Funeral Director to sensitively assess your wishes and plans to create a ceremony which your loved one would be proud of. You can have as much or as little religious content as you wish – the choice is entirely yours and I will do my very best to honour your wishes and help you to produce a memorable celebration of your loved one’s life.
My belief is that it is so important that your loved one’s funeral is conducted in exactly the way you and the family want it. I have attended funerals in the past when I have often thought that perhaps the family was not given enough choice for their ceremony and various influences have often taken over. This should not happen and this is why I wanted to become a funeral celebrant.
I love what I do and wish I had looked into this years ago. I write and deliver personal ceremonies based around the person whose life we are celebrating, I endeavour to incorporate everything that you wish to be included into the ceremony providing we have the time. Everyone has a story to tell and it is such a privilege to be able to learn about and to tell that story. I am happy to include some religion or no religion, whatever is your choice.
I also offer Naming Ceremonies. A new arrival into your life should be celebrated, whether it is a new born, a step child or an adopted child. In these times you may not feel that a religious christening ceremony is appropriate for you but you still want to introduce your child to your family, your friends or even the world! A name is the best gift you can give your child and should be celebrated. A Baby Naming ceremony gives you the opportunity to create a special, uinique day to celebrate your new arrival. I work with you to make your day special.

Our Mum’s Ceremony
I was so touched to receive the following email this morning: Hi Di, I just wanted to tell you how amazing and special you were at mum’s funeral. You really did her and us proud and we are eternally thankful for the fantastic presence you brought to the ceremony. It was perfect and we will never forget the day. It was so important that mum had a great send off and you were definitely the right lady to achieve that. Thank you so much Di, you really touched our hearts.
A Perfect Goodbye
From the moment you stepped into our home and joined the family for a cuppa to talk about our dear mum’s life, we knew we had the right person, and we’d like to thank Wendy for recommending you to us.
It’s not an easy thing to do – to talk about your mum when she has so recently passed away, but it’s something you made so effortless as you gently and tenderly encouraged us to bring to life all the memories we have of her. It helped us tremendously to remember all the good times we’d spent with her and we found ourselves laughing more than getting upset. It was a welcomed release for all of us. Thank you so much.
The ceremony itself on the day was beautiful, and you looked after the whole family throughout. We know that mum would’ve loved you! You told her story with empathy, sincerity and the perfect amount of laughter; because our mum was funny and made funny comments during her long life. You captured that brilliantly!
Thank you, Di, for your warmth and professionalism, for looking after us and for giving us the perfect way in which to say goodbye to our dear mum.
