Hi, I'm Jo

Hello. My name is Jo Napthine and I am an Independent Celebrant. Whilst I live in South East London with my husband and our three sons I am more than happy to travel anywhere within the UK or overseas. I absolutely love my job as a Celebrant, I love meeting people and it is such a privilege to work with families, telling their stories and helping families move forward in their lives through the ritual of ceremony. I am at my happiest when I am creating unique, heartfelt ceremonies which I am told time and time again I deliver with warmth and sensitivity. I am also a professionally trained singer and having spent over 20 years performing in the West End I am often asked to sing at ceremonies for that truly personal touch.

What's my ceremony style?

My style is friendly, confident, warm and inclusive. I offer both formal and informal ceremonies. I will work closely with you to create a unique personalised ceremony that truly reflects your thoughts and ideas. It will be a ceremony written with imagination and warmth totally honouring and capturing the occasion.

Weddings

Every wedding is unique just as every couple is unique. Whether you are planning something sleek and traditional or wacky and outrageous I will help guide and support you to realise your dreams. When I arranged my own wedding back in 2006 I chose the most wonderful celebrant and I was married on my in-laws farm in North Yorkshire with my guests sitting on bales of hay sipping Pimms as I walked down the aisle to The Smiths, “Please, please, please let me get what I want”. I have such beautiful memories of that day and I would love to help you create yours. Whether your choice of location is a secluded beach, in ancient woodland, beside a lake, a roof terrace under the stars, in your back garden, on a plane at 37,000 feet, at your favourite restaurant or at a beautiful traditional venue it would be an honour to be your celebrant on your big day.

I absolutely love my job as a Wedding Celebrant, I love meeting the happy couple and hearing how they met and every detail of THE PROPOSAL. It is such a privilege to tell their love story and help create a magical and memorable day through the ritual of ceremony. I pride myself in creating unique, heartfelt ceremonies which I deliver with warmth and sensitivity. As a professionally trained singer with over 20 years experience performing in the West End I am often asked to sing at ceremonies which can really add a very special touch and really wow your guests!
From our initial meeting till you say, “I do” I will work alongside you to make your dream a reality and your wedding ceremony unique and unforgettable.
On the day I will give you a presentation script in a beautiful keepsake folder along with a commemorative certificate.

Naming Ceremonies

A baby naming ceremony is a lovely alternative if you would like a ceremony without religious connotations. Why not welcome your new baby into your family by holding a beautiful personalised ceremony to celebrate the meaning of their name and an opportunity for friends and family members to make promises to your child. Naming ceremonies are not just to celebrate the birth of your child…you might be celebrating an adoption or welcoming step children into your life. And in theory you can hold your ceremony wherever you choose- in your garden, in a forest, on a beach, in a park, on a farm….so long as it’s legal. As a mother of three boys I couldn’t love welcoming babies into the world more. It is such a privilege to work with families and create a bespoke naming ceremony that you will remember and cherish for years to come.

Hello. My name is Jo and I am a professional Independent Celebrant. I am based in South East London where I live with my husband and our three sons although I am more than happy to travel across the UK and Europe to conduct ceremonies. From our initial meeting I will work closely with you and your family to make your baby naming ceremony the perfect event. I create unique, inclusive and truthful ceremonies to welcome your baby into the world which I will deliver with sensitivity and warmth blending the perfect balance of emotion with an overriding sense of joy. I am also a professionally trained singer and having spent over 20 years performing in the West End I am often asked to sing at ceremonies which can really add that personal touch.

Why choose Jo for your naming ceremony?

Together we will plan every detail of the ceremony discussing whether you would like to include hymns, poetry, readings, blessings, recitals or symbolic rituals such as a sand ceremony, lighting a unity candle, planting a tree or releasing butterflies. Instead of the traditional godparent you may choose “guiding adults” and incorporate their vows, grandparents can make promises or maybe you are celebrating blending two families. I am warm, friendly, creative, supportive and a natural storyteller with a flair for helping my families find exactly the right tone through music and words weaving together any family traditions or cultural customs.

Renewal of Vows

Hello. My name is Jo and I am an Independent Celebrant. Vow renewals are very special occasions and it can be incredibly moving to share your life stories, reflect on the inevitable ups and downs, celebrate your achievements and everything you have accomplished and commemorate a love that has strengthened, matured and deepened. You may wish to renew the vows you made to each other when you first got married or write new ones and involve family and friends as you celebrate your promise to keep standing together in this crazy and wonderful world.

It is such a privilege to work with couples who wish to renew their wedding vows and celebrate their commitment. Whether your vision is traditional, unconventional, formal or relaxed and intimate I always create unique, truthful and heartfelt ceremonies which I deliver with warmth and sensitivity. I am also a professionally trained singer and having spent over 20 years performing in the West End I am often asked to sing a song that is meaningful to my couple at the ceremony which can add a very special touch. From our initial meeting till the day you say, “I do…again” I will work alongside you to ensure that every aspect you wish for your day becomes a reality. Together we will create a memorable ceremony that truly reflects the uniqueness of you as a couple.

From our initial meeting until the day of the funeral I will help and support you as I weave your thoughts and ideas together and create a ceremony that sincerely reflects your loved one. To begin with and in close consultation with the family Jo created a script for the funeral. This we fine tuned with her, words, music, visuals, everything was covered, On the day her words caught the mood perfectly so, with her and Constable and Toops expert planning and execution, there were no surprises, nothing unexpected to marr our remembering and celebrating a good life well lived, so thank you Jo.

Jo was perfect for our needs.

She travelled over to meet us, patiently listening to our stories. The next day she presented a customised structure for the event. She encouraged us to review and change where we thought we could (empowering us to do either little or lots) and after several iterations we had a script for the day, with a view that if grief became too much that she could step in to help.

On being presented with a “copyright” issue, she immediately made contacts and resolved the issue.

On the day itself she was a breath of fresh air, spoke eloquently reading the mood of the crowd, we had an awesome celebration of Shane’s life, and received many, many positive comments.

Jo made this possible, she was always responsive and nothing was too much , we can’t say thank you enough.

Absolutely no idea where to start.
I had to jump on a plane from Chicago to London the same day I found out my mum had been taken into the ICU.

Sadly we lost her after a week. Major shock, felt numb, couldn’t even process it in my head.

We used Poppy’s Funeral directors (great job) who recommended Jo to be our Celebrant based on their observations about our family and our descriptions of the type of woman my mother was.

Jo was beyond amazing from the first meeting through to the last hug after the ceremony!

We ended up meeting in person, so she could hear all about my mum, her life, our memories to truly get a scope of the type of person she was!

To say Jo went above and beyond is a gross understatement! The emails back and forth, changing of details, helping offer music suggestions and managing to enable us to get an incredibly well made, beautiful order of service printed up last minute!

Jo is warm, genuine and authentic!

She clearly loves helping ensure other people’s goodbye/celebration send off’s are are perfect as they can be!

Can’t thank Poppy’s enough for their recommendation and Jo’s absolute professionalism from start to finish!

Truly remarkable woman!
