Hi, I'm jean
I am blessed to be a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a minister and a ceremonialist. Why choose me? I have been round the block a few times and have known heartache, true love, lots of fun and laughter so I deliver ceremonies from the heart. I just love my job with a passion. People say I am a good listener, friendly, warm, approachable and make them feel at ease. I offer truly personal, unique first welcomes, legal weddings, elopements, wedding celebrations, vow renewals and final farewells throughout Scotland. It truly is a privilege to support families and couples to create and conduct bespoke, meaningful, heartfelt ceremonies that are authentic and lovingly you. The most precious gift you can give anyone is your time and I will give you my time in abundance to ensure the ceremony is everything you wished for. Book in a no obligation discovery call and we can take it from there.
What's my ceremony style?
My aim is always to create beautiful, personal memorable ceremonies filled with love. It is a privilege to get to know families and work with them at both the saddest and happiest moments in their lives. I am warm, kind and compassionate, with a good sense of fun. This has been invaluable when helping families at the lowest point in their lives, those who are coming to terms with a death that was chosen, delivering a service that allowed them to laugh through their tears. My style is to walk with you every step of the way guiding and supporting you from our first meeting ’til the end of the ceremony, and beyond. I’m a really good listener and will take the time to really get to know you and weave that into the script to create your perfect day. I am authorised by the Registrar General to conduct Legal Weddings throughout Scotland.
Why choose jean?
If you are looking for a ceremony that is relaxed, respectful, inclusive and original, you are in the right place. My role is to create a ceremony that is authentic and lovingly You. I’m ready and willing to start planning your perfect ceremony incorporating things that are meaningful to you and your significant other. Your wedding ceremony can be held anywhere you want it to be and with me as your officiant , my promise to you is that it will be everything you only dreamt it could be. I am authorised though the Open Sanctuary to conduct legal weddings in Scotland. Whether it be held at home, the local pub,, hotel, castle, on the beach or on a boat, it will be a day to be remembered as your own unique ceremony – Your way.
What do I offer?
No two couples are the same therefore no two weddings are the same. Every wedding is individually crafted to make your celebration unique. Every single aspect of your wedding ceremony will be as unique as you.
We can include many aspects within your ceremony which can include Unity Candle, Celtic Handfasting, Oathing Stone, Quaich, Ring Blessing, Rose Ceremony, Sand Ceremony, Jumping the Broom, Candle Unity, Wine Box Ceremony, Love lock ceremony, spice ceremony, Caim, Dove release, Jewish smash glass, or create your own ritual/start a new trend.
If you’re not sure what these rituals entail, no worries I will provide you with a Makeavow.info leaflet ‘Ritual Run down’ which outlines what is involved and we can talk them through when we meet. I will be with you every step of the way and together we will come up with a plan that will be totally right for you.
I will create a wedding that reflects your values and beliefs. Aside from crafting a script that is purely about you as a couple, it can incorporate an element of spiritual symbolism such as a Caim (circle of protection) ring blessing, handfasting, or drinking from the Quiach. You can involve your guests with special readings or to play a part in your symbolism. Non bespoke ritual items are included in my wedding and baby naming packages. I am registered by the Registrar General through the Open Sanctuary to officiate a Legal Wedding anywhere in Scotland indoors or outdoors.
Why choose jean for your wedding?
I hear you asking why you should choose me. Plain and simple, I love my job. My number one goal is to assist couples in designing an extraordinary bespoke wedding ceremony that will meet and exceed expectations. I am relaxed and capable and making your wedding ceremony amazingly wonderful and perfect for both you and your guests, is at the heart of all I do. Whether your ceremony is in a stately castle, within the garden of your own home, a hotel, on an Island, on a beach or on a boat, it will be uniquely you and a realisation of your dream wedding. Your wedding will be fun without sacrificing the sacredness, warmth and wonder that such a life-changing moment inspires. I will go that extra mile for you to make your day perfect, arriving an hour before the wedding to ensure everything goes without a hitch when you’re getting hitched. I will provide you with a ribbon bound copy of the wedding script following the ceremony and should you wish, at no extra cost, prepare and provide scrolls tied in ribbon of your colour choice for your guests containing a photo of the happy couple, bit of Bio and a reading or poem as a keepsake.
Naming Ceremonies are a wonderful way to introduce your new addition to your family and friends and to communicate your commitment to the child, to their welfare and their future happiness.
There are many different elements that you can introduce into your ceremony to make it unique, personal, meaningful and symbolic of the love and dedication that goes into raising your child. The parental questionairre I will give you to prepare for our first meeting contains a list of options for rituals which could be included within the ceremony if you so wish.
You may want to incorporate an element of symbolism into the baby naming ceremony. This could include a baby blessing, a sand ceremony, a naming candle, a petal ceremony, blessing stones, oathing stone, jar of wishes, or time capsule. Non bespoke ritual items are included within my package.
Why choose jean for your naming ceremony?
Family is everything to me. Being a mum, a Nana, and a great Grandmother I just love Naming Ceremonies. I love researching the origins and meaning of the chosen name and so enjoy involving the parents, guide parents, grandparents and siblings in the ceremony. I’m comfortable around children as are children comfortable around me. In fact I pride myself in being viewed as a bit of a Nanny McPhee.
Renewal of Vows
Anniversaries and milestones are often the time to reflect on your life together and a vow renewal is a wonderful ceremonial way to affirm your choice was a good one and you are sticking with it.
Perhaps first time around you were only able to have a small wedding and now this is your chance to have more guests present or you are still so crazy in love that you simply want to re-commit to each other.
For romantics, planning a surprise vow renewal for your spouse can be a way to re-ignite the flame of passion.
The Ceremony broadly echoes the marriage ceremony in structure. You can reaffirm those vows or exchange new vows that reflect the maturity of your relationship. You can renew your vows anywhere. Attendants are unnecessary for a vow renewal, but you might choose to invite your original bridesmaids and groomsmen to stand up for you informally for sentimental reasons.
Why choose jean for your renewal of vows?
Ive been round the block a few times so I know what goes into a marriage to make it work. It doesn’t matter whether you have been married one year or thirty years, I am testament to confirm making a marriage work takes commitment on both sides and a vow renewal ceremony is a beautiful way to honour that commitment.
Whether it is a small and intimate vow renewal or a big commitment marriage celebration, I will be more than happy to make your dream vow renewal a reality to say ‘I still do’ with depth and meaning.
Before retraining as a wedding and naming celebrant I first trained and found my true vocation as a Funeral Celebrant. I feel privileged to be able to be part of end of Life Rites of Passages. It truly is an honour to support a bereaved family and help create and conduct a funeral service to reflect the wishes of the family and the life of their loved one.
Since training as a Funeral Celebrant I have had the great privilege of leading on a great number of funeral services. I pride myself in working closely with families to get to know the life of their loved one, supporting and guiding them on choices and ultimately tailoring the service which reflects and celebrates their loved ones life and meets the wishes of the family.
I support families from our first visit through to the day of the service and beyond. I will guide you every step of the way ensuring the service fully reflects the wishes of the family and the deceased. At no extra charge I provide scrolls tied in ribbon in your loved ones favourite colour, It will contain a bit of bio, readings and a photo of your loved one.
Why choose jean for your funeral?
The draft script is issued to the Next of Kin as quickly as practical and tweaked as/if necessary until the full script of the service is approved. Following the service I will present you with a bound copy of the script in a ceremony folder with forget me not seeds inside. I will offer to provide, at no extra charge, scrolls tied in ribbon of your choice, for those in attendance at the service.

I would like to thank you for today’s service. I really appreciate all your efforts and help with the ceremony. The ceremony was impeccable and very well done. I cannot express how grateful I am for your work. Thanks a lot
Jean was lovely
jean was lovely throughout the process of planning my mum’s funeral. She came to the house to learn about my mum and was able to deliver a lovely celebration of her life. She provided guests with scrolls wrapped in mum’s favourite colour which was a lovely touch. Thank you for your support and care.
We couldn’t have asked for a better service
Jean conducted the service for my brother last month and as a family we couldn’t have asked for a better service. Jean came to meet us and asked all the relevant questions needed. Just a few days later she sent a full draft of the script of the service which was perfect. If any changes were need she made it clear that that wound never be a problem. We entrusted Jean to provide readings or poems that she thought would be appropriate and the ones she chose were just perfect. To the point that the poem she chose is now printed out and handing with a picture of my brother as it fitted so well. She was always available if any questions needed to be answered. The scrolls Jean provided for people attending the funeral was an extremely nice touch and we are so grateful she took the time to provide these and to provide the perfect service.
