Hi, I'm Sian

I love working creatively with people. I love writing, poetry and theatre – so I followed my desire to work in a personal, creative and direct way with individuals to make tailor-made memorable ceremonies for important life moments. I am open minded, down to earth and young at heart. With a degree in social history and anthropology I have long been fascinated in how people individually and collectively mark life’s rites of passage. I will always try and find a way to say YES to what you ask for – there’s so much scope and freedom when you chose a celebrant led ceremony. You can read many testimonials on my website here: https://magpieceremonies.co.uk/testimonials. A big thank you to my lovely families and couples for their kind words.

What's my ceremony style?

I am down to earth and kind, my personal style is warm and very human, I am 100% reliable but I’m not overly stiff or formal. Whether its a wedding or a funeral, my whole aim is to reassure you, and put you at ease so when the time comes you are relaxed and confident. As a mother and grandmother, love and nurturing is central to my life.

I especially love being outdoors and if you are planning an outdoor ceremony or want to include natural elements in your service, please do ring for a chat. Wellies and weddings? No problem!

I am committed to supporting people in coming together to celebrate, support and bear witness to significant life events. On the day you can feel relaxed, trusting me to look after you and lead your ceremony with a light touch and a warm heart.

I offer a good listening ear, a safe pair of hands and a warm heart.

Weddings

I love learning about your unique story as a couple – how you would like that told is paramount to creating a memorable ceremony. My style is warm and very human , I am 100% reliable but I’m not overly stiff or formal. I love making relationships with my couples, creating something unique to them that they are excited about and that really reflects and celebrates their love for each other. We’ll also talk about how to create a special ceremonial space.

In our initial meeting I will listen to what’s important to you individually and as a couple. We’ll discuss what elements you’d like to include in the ceremony : pieces of writing, songs, poems, music, lyrics, passages from books – I can also make suggestions if you would like some inspiration.

We’ll talk about what rituals you might like to include, e.g. hand fasting, candle lighting, ring blessings, or we can create one especially for you.

Talking about important people you’d like to be involved in the ceremony is key as well. There are many ways your family, friends, children or even pets can contribute to the ceremony.

My whole aim is to put you at ease and to make you feel confident in what we create together. On the day you can feel relaxed, trusting me to lead your ceremony with heart.

Why choose Sian for your wedding?

With a professional background of over 30 years working in the arts and making live events I understand about the ‘theatre’ of the occasion, and how to make an event really special. We’ll talk through all the ways we could do this – sharing ideas and working out which ones are the best. I will suggest ways we can elevate the ceremony with ritual and involve your guests – giving it emotional depth as well as making it memorably fun and truly loving.

Naming Ceremonies

How wonderful and important to come together as a family or community to greet and celebrate new life. If you are a Christian a christening is significant and appropriate, but what if you don’t have a specific faith, or no spiritual beliefs at all? I think it’s so important that we come together to mark and celebrate such a significant life and family event. Individuals, families and communities need shared ceremony and ritual to mark these moments.

Whether you want an indoor or outdoor ceremony, for a small or big extended family – we will work out what is right for you and your child. Live music or singing can be incorporated into the ceremony – I can offer suggestions for readings or poems and will support those who’d like to read but feel nervous.

Why choose Sian for your naming ceremony?

I love involving people in the ceremony and rituals, and I will discuss with you the ways we could do this, finding something that’s absolutely right for your family. I will work closely with you to create a wholly unique and memorable occasion that truly reflects the individual being celebrated and welcomed into their family and the world. I am a mum and a granny – I have made different ceremonies to welcome each of these children..

Renewal of Vows

All couples are different and I love finding out what is special to them, their story and how to reflect and celebrate that in the ceremony we design together.
I start with a blank page and a open mind – listening to you brings it all to life.

Why choose Sian for your renewal of vows?

Young love is full of optimism and joy – but love between two people that has matured with them, faced and overcome challenges, has years of shared experience, is rich and strong in different and deeper ways. That love has been laid down like the growth rings of a big tree, each year expanding, each year growing taller.

It’s good to pause, to look back at how far you have come as well as to look forward at the path ahead.

As with all my ceremonies, I will work with you to make something entirely personal for you.

Funerals

“At the start of this process I thought the funeral was just something that had to be got out of the way. Instead with your thought and care, it has been a very healing process for me.” This is why I love what I do, knowing that this can make a positive difference to those who are hurting. When we lose a loved one, our world changes forever. I will listen and support you in creating a beautiful and unique funeral.
Funerals are sad occasions, but there can be joy as well as sorrow, laughter as well as tears. I want you to feel that you have given your loved one a send off to be proud of, one that truly reflects their life. My style is warm and very human, I believe we need to be tender and kind, to look after each other at this time.

We’ll consider what music, poetry and readings will truly reflect the person who has died, and what rituals might add depth to the ceremony. If friends or family wish to speak at the service I will support them and ensure their words flow smoothly as part of the overall ceremony. I’ll send you a draft copy of the service before the day for your approval, a final digital copy for sharing and a presentation copy for safe keeping afterwards.

I especially like making ‘candle bowls’ that are unique to each ceremony that incorporate elements important to the person who has died. There’s pictures of some I have made on my Sian Allen Celebrant Facebook page.

Why choose Sian for your funeral?

People do not realise how much flexibility and choice there is around funerals, I’ll help you to make the best service you can. I believe that a good funeral is an important part of the grieving process, and am committed to helping grieving families to make the best possible ceremony they can. I love it when families and friends contribute and participate and I will support you in considering how this might happen.
Creating and planning the funerals for my parents made me fully appreciate the importance of shared ceremonies, and I decided to train professionally as a funeral celebrant.

Sian was our celebrant for our special day and she was amazing! From the planning stage to the big day she was there not only to make sure the ceremony was personal and thought through but also she was there to support us and help us when we couldn’t decide. I can’t describe how relaxed she made us feel and how she captured our essence in her ceremony. And to top it all off we received the ceremony written down in a beautifully bound booklet. I would recommend Sian to anyone who wants a personal touch to their special day delivered with compassion and care. She puts so much effort in making sure it is just right!

Wedding | 08/04/2023 | Eccleston Village Hall

We booked Sian to perform our wedding ceremony this past weekend, and she could not have been a more perfect fit for us as a couple! From the very first email she was so warm and welcoming, and allowed us to craft a ceremony that felt so personal and unique to us and our love story. She was incredibly patient when some elements of our ceremony took longer than anticipated to come together, and delivered us a beautiful ceremony on the day itself. Many of our guests told us afterwards how impressed they were with her relaxed tone that still captured the gravitas of the occasion, and how welcome she made everybody feel. We cannot recommend her enough to anyone looking for an intimate ceremony that is wholly unique to you.

Naming Ceremony | 09/24/2022 | Ryton Village Hall

The ceremony was incredibly special – everyone said how wonderful it was. Lots of our friends and family had never been to a Naming Ceremony and had so many positive things to say.
We were so delighted with all of the thought, effort and research that went into making the ceremony so personal for S (and for us!). You really took on board everything we talked about and went above and beyond to offer suggestions, support and advice, while ensuring the ceremony was individual to us. Thank you so very much!
