Hi, I'm Alicen

Hello – I am an imaginative, experienced and friendly celebrant based in the lovely seaside town of Bridport, West Dorset. There are countless words and ways to say ‘I do’, ‘thank you’, ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’ to someone we love. I write beautiful ceremonies that express exactly what you want to say, in the way you want to say it.

Every ceremony I write is unique. My first inspiration is your story: the events and special people in your life and all the things you love. I’m also inspired by the beauty of nature, colour, psychology, literature, all kinds of music, art, films and comedy.

I am equally happy in my wellies in a field, or in my heels in a formal venue. My ceremonies range from the small and intimate to the large and formal; traditional or quirky; relaxed or energetic. I suggest new ideas and point out potential pitfalls, so your ceremony becomes everything you love and nothing you don’t. I like to involve friends and family members and to engage everyone in the ceremony as much as you wish.

I listen carefully to your thoughts, whether you have strong ideas or none at all yet! As an independent celebrant, I offer you the full range of ceremony options – from completely secular or humanist, to spiritual or religious. We can draw from all different traditions or faiths, in line with your beliefs.

If I were choosing a celebrant, I’d want someone who listens to my ideas and responds with some of her own: things I hadn’t thought of and questions I didn’t even know to ask! I’d want someone I could trust, who’s imaginative, friendly and professional. I’d want to feel confident that she’d done the planning and thinking, so I can relax. I would definitely want someone calm, with a good sense of humour because big occasions can get stressful. I’d like her to be genuine and chatty with my relatives – especially the older ones who can get a bit tired and the little ones who never get tired! That’s what I would want in a celebrant and my aim is to be that kind of celebrant for you!

I was a registrar with Dorset Registration Service before becoming an independent wedding celebrant in 2017. I have been a funeral celebrant for four years. My background has always been in communications. I was a freelance PR consultant for many years, promoting everything from Gillette razors, to Rolls-Royce motor cars, through to Walkers biscuits and Hawaiian Tropic suncare. I also worked as a public speaking and presentation skills trainer for BA and London advertising agencies. I have a degree in English Literature and Levels 2 & 3 Counselling Skills.

I have been married for 21 years, and I have two teenage children, two grumpy rescue cats and a crazy spaniel.

What's my ceremony style?

It’s always been my vision to offer a full range of original ceremonies, to celebrate love at all ages and stages of life.

Our relationships are built on years of commitment and wonderful stories, which we love to hear retold at special family gatherings. I work your stories into a beautiful, original ceremony to fit the occasion and your personalities. My ceremonies are very warm and family-friendly, in which everyone feels welcome and included, whether or not they are actively taking part.

Wedding | 08/31/2019 | Dorset

Alicen was brilliant! We could not asked for a better celebrant. She took so much pressure of our shoulders by working with our initial thoughts to craft a highly personalised, unique and creative ceremony. She introduced us to some great ideas that we would not have come up with on our own and really helped us develop and make the most out of what we had in mind. Alicen was easy to communicate with (and patient with us when we were inundated with other bits of wedding planning!). Alicen was calm, confident, warm and organised. She worked in plenty of humour (which we asked for), really engaged with the guests to deliver a ceremony that many of our friends and family have described as the most personal, unique and enjoyable wedding ceremony they had ever been to. Alicen was also great at delivering the more touching and emotional parts of the ceremony.

Alicen led our commitment ceremony last month and it turned out to be everything and more that we had hoped it would be. It was the best, happiest day with laughter and romance – a perfect balance – two families became one. Thanks Alicen

Alicen is so professional and friendly, even on our first meeting it felt that we had known her for years. She made us feel so relaxed and listened to everything that we wanted our ceremony to be. Alicen kept in contact with us while writing the ceremony. Matt and Sue
