Hi, I'm Susan
One day, five years ago I read an article in a magazine written by a successful celebrant and I realised that this was the job that I’d always wanted to do! As a child I loved to write stories about families with a happy ever after. As an adult I enjoy researching my family tree and finding out their stories which are often stranger than fiction. I’d honed my creative, communicative and people skills as a teacher, trainer and mentor and I was ready for this next step!
Since training in the art of celebrancy, I have officiated many ceremonies for couples and families across the country. At the same time, I too have found love again, after being widowed and married my husband Chris followed by a beautiful handfasting ceremony in 2019. Dreams can come true!
What's my ceremony style?
As a celebrant I would say that I am true to myself, value honesty and have a belief in others. I am passionate and generous, a storyteller as well as a listener and am intuitive and hugely enthusiastic! I continue to develop professionally through research ,CPD and collaboration. My aim is to give my couples and families a wonderful and unique ceremony or celebration of life and to ensure that their wishes are reflected in their ceremony.
Why choose Susan?
I work with couples to create wonderful and unique wedding ceremonies they will enjoy and remember for years to come. These ceremonies make the day a happy and loving occasion! Naming ceremonies are so special! it is a pure delight to be able to create and officiate such a super event in a child’s life! As, a celebrant I give those you love the best send off at their funeral by conducting a ceremony that pays tribute to and celebrates their life. I create a service that reflects the personality and wishes of their loved one and those of the family.
What do I offer?
I work with couples to create wonderful and unique ceremonies that they will enjoy and remember for years to come. These ceremonies can be just the couple or can include family and friends to make the day a happy and loving occasion. I am caring, enthusiastic and energetic! I enjoy listening to couples’ stories and their ideas for their perfect ceremony and am well-practised in public speaking and have superb literary, writing and presentation skills. I originally completed Family and Funeral Celebrancy courses with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants and have added to these year on year; attending a range of face-to-face and virtual courses with the FPC, Civil Ceremonies Ltd and Jennifer Claire Coaching.
My couples are very much in love and want a bespoke ceremony which they will enjoy with family and friends. I am happy to create, choreograph and conduct your personal choice of ceremony whether it’s traditional, informal or themed. If you love festivals or ancient customs you may be interested in my Handfasting ceremonies. It’s your choice – there are so many elements to choose from and to create! What about a Cocktail ceremony, a Key ceremony or a Rose ceremony? You pick elements that suit your personalities and you as a couple and the ceremony will truly reflect who you are! The venue? It could be a hotel, by a lake or a tipi. I will be there to support you in choreographing the whole event; making it a marvellous and memorable occasion for you and family and friends!
Why choose Susan for your wedding?
I am a modern celebrant with a touch of kookiness and am a passionate people-person. I love officiating all wedding ceremonies but especially outdoor ceremonies! My mission is to collaborate with my couples to create wonderful and personalised ceremonies that they will always remember and say ‘It was the best day ever! We loved it! ‘ Testimonial from C & R September 2020
I have been a family celebrant for nearly four years and have conducted many ceremonies. My absolute joy is to officiate Naming ceremonies. They are so special for the baby/child and for the family when they welcome this special person into their loving community. I am there to support the family before and on the Day, am well-practised in public speaking and have superb literary, writing and presentation skills. As an independent celebrant I support all families whether they want to include religious elements in their ceremony or are not yet clear what they want. This is all part of the journey to create a wonderful and unique ceremony for them all to enjoy. Testimonial Quote:’ I would highly recommend Susan she is such a lovely lady and she truly made my little boy’s Naming day something special!’ MB September 2019.
We will have an initial meeting so that I can get to meet the family and of course the most important special person and experience your family dynamics! Only then will I make suggestion for the Ceremony, starting with the Outline. I furnish you with a questionnaire including questions about the child, his character and the dreams and aspirations you hold for his future. We then discuss the type of ceremony you want and the venue and how it will be dressed. We talk about music, poetry and readings and gradually this truly personalised ceremony starts to take shape. You will choose a number of guardians or guide parents for the baby. They will make promises to care for and support the child alongside your own personalised promises. RItuals such as preparing a Time Capsule for the baby’s 18th birthday can be included. There are so many ideas to choose from!
Why choose Susan for your naming ceremony?
I really enjoy officiating Naming Ceremonies. They are a milestone in your baby’s life. As your celebrant, I will be there to support you through the entire process: from an hour beforehand to check everything is in place; to being flexible in the timings, ready for a sleepy or not so sleepy baby and to take on someone’s part if they are too overcome with emotion to say their words. Finally, expect the Day to be truly memorable and full of happy tears and laughter! Testimonial Quote: ‘We could not have wished for a better naming ceremony! ‘ A&A 2018
Renewal of Vows
I work with couples to create wonderful and unique ceremonies that they will enjoy and remember for years to come. These ceremonies can be just the couple or can include family and friends to make the day a happy and loving occasion. I am caring, enthusiastic and energetic! I am well-practised in public speaking and have superb literary, writing and presentation skills. I enjoy meeting and getting to know the couple: listening to their ideas, feelings and thoughts about their perfect ceremony and create that for them in their own unique script. I originally completed Family and Funeral Celebrancy courses with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants and have added to these year on year; attending a range of face-to-face and virtual courses and am also a Mentor for the Academy of Modern Celebrancy.
Renewal of Vows ceremonies are always such uplifting and emotional occasions. The couple have normally been married for at least ten years but it is sometimes less! There is so much happiness in the room. A Renewal of Vows ceremony is not legal as you are already married so it can be held at any venue, inside or out! You will still want a bespoke ceremony to enjoy with your children, other family and friends. I am happy to create, choreograph and conduct your personal choice of ceremony. A Handfasting ceremony with family participation is always a joy! There are so many elements to choose from to suit your personalities and you as a couple: whether it’s a Cocktail ceremony, a Sand ceremony or a Unity Candle ceremony. The ceremony will truly reflect who you are making it a totally wonderful and memorable occasion for you and family and friends!
Why choose Susan for your renewal of vows?
I am a modern celebrant with a touch of kookiness and am a passionate people-person. I love officiating Renewal of Vows ceremonies. There is always a special vibe to these ceremonies. So much love and so much laughter! My mission is to collaborate with the couples to create wonderful and personalised ceremonies that they will always remember. I have been a family celebrant for nearly four years and have conducted many funerals and burials. Having personally had a lot of experience of bereavement with family and friends over the past thirty years I am aware of how shocked and in pain people can be and how a well-planned and bespoke funeral ceremony can support you and your family in feeling safe to mourn your loved one with tears as well as laughter. I am well-practised in public speaking and have superb literary, writing and presentation skills. As an independent celebrant I am able to support all families: families who want to include religious elements in their ceremony, families who do not want any religious content at all and the families who are not yet clear what they want. Testimonial Quote: ‘That is absolutely perfect!! You have embodied everything that my Dad was!!’ K.V. September 2020
I visit you and we have an initial meeting at which I will listen to your wishes and guide you in choosing the type of ceremony your loved one would have wanted. You will receive the Order of Ceremony then I will write a Eulogy based on your stories and memories that have helped me create a picture of your loved one and the life they led. I shall assist you in finalising the readings/poems and Tributes as well as confirming songs or hymns and music and go on to complete the script of the ceremony in discussion with yourselves. You may choose to have a Ceremony in the Crematorium or by the graveside or at a different venue such as a hotel or outdoor venue: the choice is yours. Nowadays, people may choose to take part in an ‘Open Mic’ at the Wake which I am able to support.
Why choose Susan for your funeral?
As a funeral celebrant, I can offer you a professional and highly personal service at this extremely sad time for you and your family. I liaise with the Funeral Director and am on hand if you have any questions about the ceremony. I am a friendly, experienced, and thoughtful person and I will assist you in giving your loved one a meaningful and unique ceremony. Giving them the best send-off that will reflect their life, their loves and their values. Testimonial Quote: ‘Thank you Susan it was a beautiful service you did us proud. Kindest regards T & L xx’.

Perfect Wedding Ceremony
Susan was the celebrant for our wedding in November 2021. Having a celebrant-led wedding was not our initial plan, but after Covid derailed our original wedding plans we opted to change our ceremony… And it was one of the best decisions we could have made. Susan created and delivered a perfect wedding ceremony that was still alike to a traditional wedding in format, but making it personal to us as a couple. Susan listened to what we wanted, helped us with suggestions for readings and vows, and brought everything to life in a way better than we could have ever imagined. To know and be able to run through the ceremony prior to the wedding was very reassuring to us and made us more relaxed for the big day. We had so many compliments on our ceremony from friends and family – we are so grateful to Susan and thoroughly recommend her!
A Fitting Send Off
Thank-you so much. Everyone we have spoken to has commented about what an excellent job they thought you did and also what a fitting send off for A… One she would most definitely have approved of. So, thanks again, Miriam.
