Hi, I'm Jo
Hello. My name is Jo Napthine and I am an Independent Celebrant. Whilst I live in South East London with my husband and our three sons I am more than happy to travel anywhere within the UK or overseas. I absolutely love my job as a Celebrant, I love meeting people and it is such a privilege to work with families, telling their stories and helping families move forward in their lives through the ritual of ceremony. I am at my happiest when I am creating unique, heartfelt ceremonies which I am told time and time again I deliver with warmth and sensitivity. I am also a professionally trained singer and having spent over 20 years performing in the West End I am often asked to sing at ceremonies for that truly personal touch.
What's my ceremony style?
My style is friendly, confident, warm and inclusive. I offer both formal and informal ceremonies. I will work closely with you to create a unique personalised ceremony that truly reflects your thoughts and ideas. It will be a ceremony written with imagination and warmth totally honouring and capturing the occasion.
Why choose Jo?
I am passionate about my role as a Celebrant. I am warm, sincere, friendly, motivated and open minded and as a natural storyteller I will go above and beyond to support and guide you as together we create a meaningful and memorable ceremony. I pride myself on my imagination and giving you choices
What do I offer?
Every wedding is unique just as every couple is unique. Whether you are planning something sleek and traditional or wacky and outrageous I will help guide and support you to realise your dreams. When I arranged my own wedding back in 2006 I chose the most wonderful celebrant and I was married on my in-laws farm in North Yorkshire with my guests sitting on bales of hay sipping Pimms as I walked down the aisle to The Smiths, “Please, please, please let me get what I want”. I have such beautiful memories of that day and I would love to help you create yours. Whether your choice of location is a secluded beach, in ancient woodland, beside a lake, a roof terrace under the stars, in your back garden, on a plane at 37,000 feet, at your favourite restaurant or at a beautiful traditional venue it would be an honour to be your celebrant on your big day.
I absolutely love my job as a Wedding Celebrant, I love meeting the happy couple and hearing how they met and every detail of THE PROPOSAL. It is such a privilege to tell their love story and help create a magical and memorable day through the ritual of ceremony. I pride myself in creating unique, heartfelt ceremonies which I deliver with warmth and sensitivity. As a professionally trained singer with over 20 years experience performing in the West End I am often asked to sing at ceremonies which can really add a very special touch and really wow your guests!
From our initial meeting till you say, “I do” I will work alongside you to make your dream a reality and your wedding ceremony unique and unforgettable.
On the day I will give you a presentation script in a beautiful keepsake folder along with a commemorative certificate.
Why choose Jo for your wedding?
What sort of ceremony would you like? Whether your vision is traditional, unconventional, formal, informal, flamboyant or simple together we will create an uplifting celebration reflecting you as a couple. Every element is your choice and my job is to guide you through the exciting process of personalising your special day. I am friendly, creative, calm and thoughtful. I will go above and beyond to weave together all your ideas and deliver a meaningful ceremony that could include any number of creative elements such as sand blending, hand fasting, ring warming, jumping the broom, tree planting, lighting a unity candle, a marriage time capsule or the sharing of wine!!!
A baby naming ceremony is a lovely alternative if you would like a ceremony without religious connotations. Why not welcome your new baby into your family by holding a beautiful personalised ceremony to celebrate the meaning of their name and an opportunity for friends and family members to make promises to your child. Naming ceremonies are not just to celebrate the birth of your child…you might be celebrating an adoption or welcoming step children into your life. And in theory you can hold your ceremony wherever you choose- in your garden, in a forest, on a beach, in a park, on a farm….so long as it’s legal. As a mother of three boys I couldn’t love welcoming babies into the world more. It is such a privilege to work with families and create a bespoke naming ceremony that you will remember and cherish for years to come.
Hello. My name is Jo and I am a professional Independent Celebrant. I am based in South East London where I live with my husband and our three sons although I am more than happy to travel across the UK and Europe to conduct ceremonies. From our initial meeting I will work closely with you and your family to make your baby naming ceremony the perfect event. I create unique, inclusive and truthful ceremonies to welcome your baby into the world which I will deliver with sensitivity and warmth blending the perfect balance of emotion with an overriding sense of joy. I am also a professionally trained singer and having spent over 20 years performing in the West End I am often asked to sing at ceremonies which can really add that personal touch.
On the day I will give you a presentation script in a beautiful keepsake folder with a commemorative certificate.
Why choose Jo for your naming ceremony?
Together we will plan every detail of the ceremony discussing whether you would like to include hymns, poetry, readings, blessings, recitals or symbolic rituals such as a sand ceremony, lighting a unity candle, planting a tree or releasing butterflies. Instead of the traditional godparent you may choose “guiding adults” and incorporate their vows, grandparents can make promises or maybe you are celebrating blending two families. I am warm, friendly, creative, supportive and a natural storyteller with a flair for helping my families find exactly the right tone through music and words weaving together any family traditions or cultural customs.
Renewal of Vows
Hello. My name is Jo and I am an Independent Celebrant. Vow renewals are very special occasions and it can be incredibly moving to share your life stories, reflect on the inevitable ups and downs, celebrate your achievements and everything you have accomplished and commemorate a love that has strengthened, matured and deepened. You may wish to renew the vows you made to each other when you first got married or write new ones and involve family and friends as you celebrate your promise to keep standing together in this crazy and wonderful world.
It is such a privilege to work with couples who wish to renew their wedding vows and celebrate their commitment. Whether your vision is traditional, unconventional, formal or relaxed and intimate I always create unique, truthful and heartfelt ceremonies which I deliver with warmth and sensitivity. I am also a professionally trained singer and having spent over 20 years performing in the West End I am often asked to sing a song that is meaningful to my couple at the ceremony which can add a very special touch. From our initial meeting till the day you say, “I do…again” I will work alongside you to ensure that every aspect you wish for your day becomes a reality. Together we will create a memorable ceremony that truly reflects the uniqueness of you as a couple.

Jo could not have been more caring
I can’t recommend Jo enough. When my daughter died as the result of injuries incurred in a cycling accident, Jo came and talked us through the service we wanted to hold. She took so much trouble getting to know the whole family. She sent us what she was planning to say at the ceremony and made all the amendments we suggested. She also helped us with all the practical arrangements. At the ceremony she spoke in such a caring way that some of those attending asked if she was a friend of the family. She certainly helped us through a very stressful and tragic time.
Brilliant lovely celebrant strongly recommend
Jo was superb. She assessed the situation and what was required for the funeral of Paul’s sister,Judith, and lead the participants. She visited us at home to sort service and arranged orders of service, on which we had many compliments.. Jo made bunches of lavender and herbs from her own garden and invited attendees up to take a bunch and place on coffin. Many afterwards said how beautiful it was and Jo made those. She also led the singing and spoke beautifully and respectfully and had a genuine feel for Judith as a person.
We were delighted and strongly recommend Jo as a Celebrant.
The Perfect Ending
I met Jo in November 2021 when she came to meet me and my husband who had a terminal lung condition and I wanted him to be involved in his funeral. I found Jo amongst a list of celebrants on ‘Poetic Endings’ website who were the most brilliant funeral directors. After our first conversation, I knew she was the right person for me and my family. She came to meet us and we relived wonderful memories of our life and love, with Jo’s great skills. Three months before my husbands death Jo offered us the opportunity of renewing our wedding vows which gave us and our three children a wonderful, happy memory at a really difficult time. Jo’s compassion, empathy and communication skills were second to none, she is so creative and brought some beautiful touches to the service and made it really special and personal for our family. From the Vow Renewal ceremony until my husband’s death three months later, she kept in touch with us and particularly in the build up to the funeral. Making contact with Jo before the funeral was invaluable as we had time to prepare well and honour my husband in the way he deserved. I’m so pleased I did that as it was a very positive and creative experience. Jo is a truly special person and celebrant and I can’t recommend her highly enough!
