Hi, I'm Sarah

Hello,

I am an ex-English teacher, new mum, gardener, boxset watching, sci-fi loving Family and Funeral Celebrant who finds people endlessly fascinating. And my job means I get to ask questions and listen to people’s stories and memories, hopes and dreams, challenges and successes.

Writing ceremonies to help people mark important life events is somewhat of a privilege. It’s all about helping people find the words at a time when their emotions can seem overwhelming.

PS. You don’t have to ask here. You love each other. You want to celebrate or remember that love. We can do that. x

What's my ceremony style?

My style is simple and straightforward. I ask you questions so as to get the stories, the quirks, the important small things that make a person or a relationship real. I think it is important to bring humour to a ceremony, even if it is a funeral and only close family are in on the joke.
My aim is to bring calm to your day so I double-check the ceremony with you every step of the way. This way we both know that it is the ceremony you want for yourselves and your loved ones.

Why choose Sarah?

Being invited into your family at a time of great fortune or sadness is an honour and as such deserves respect, honesty, and kindness. The ceremony is never about my beliefs or what I want: the ceremony is always about you, your family, and what you hold dear. I think about how I would want my family to be treated at such times, and that is how I treat my couples, my groups, and my families.

I want the ceremony I write for you to bring you joy, comfort, and calm and for you to be able to remember it for all the best reasons.

What do I offer?

Weddings

You are choosing everything else to make your Wedding Day super special for you both so why not make sure the ACTUAL ceremony is super special too?

By asking you a LOT of questions, I get to know the two of you so I can write you a personal and thoughtful Wedding Ceremony. It will tell your love story, include your people and/or pets, and be remembered by everyone for all the best reasons.

There are four different ceremony packages, each with their own elements. The simplest package includes meet-ups and chats, writing of the ceremony, a commemorative certificate, and a keepsake copy of the ceremony. While the other packages vary with help for speech writing and extra mini-ceremonies you can include in your wedding ceremony like handfasting or sand ceremonies.

I can send you a leaflet with details and I am looking forward to chatting through any ideas you may have. It is your wedding ceremony and I want to help you have the best day possible.

Why choose Sarah for your wedding?

What a question! I want my couples to know that I think of them as family, and I would want my family treated well – with honesty, humour, and kindness. And that’s how I will approach writing and delivering your wedding ceremony.

At every stage, I make sure you are delighted with what has been included. I am happy to re-draft to make sure you have the most perfect ceremony for you. If you want to include pets, friends, relatives and all their talents – that’s what we will do. After all, why be ordinary when you can be unique?

Naming Ceremonies

Congratulations on welcoming a new life into your household!

I know the experience can bring untold delights as well as the odd challenge. Hang on in there!

What better way to introduce your new baby to the world than a Naming Ceremony?

You can make promises to this wee life about how you will bring them up. And get your friends and family to take new roles as Guardians, Watchers, or God Parents.

This is also a lovely time to mark with the planting of a tree or flowers or beginning to look back into your own history, so you have stories from ‘before’ to tell your youngster as they grow up.

Each ceremony is written specifically for your family and includes readings, music, and mini ceremonies of your choosing. We can include family and friends and pets in the ceremony so your little one/s know how loved they are.

At the end of the ceremony, I leave you a keepsake copy so you can share it with your youngster/s as they grow.

Why choose Sarah for your naming ceremony?

A Naming Ceremony is a time for celebration, optimism and hope. By talking with you and learning what you want for your child/ren, I will write a ceremony that brings joy and happiness to you and your attendees. I will help you write vows for your Godparents/Guardians/Watchers or shape the ceremony around the vows you have chosen.

Oh, and I have lots of ideas for mini ceremonies to add that extra something to your day.

Renewal of Vows

How super that you have found someone you love and who loves you back AND that you have achieved so much with!

A Vow Renewal can be a ceremony that reflects back on your lives together. It celebrates your successes and gives a nod of recognition to the losses. It gives you the opportunity to take all these experiences and renew or recreate your wedding vows for how you are now.

By asking you lots of questions and getting to know you really well, I write a personal and thoughtful ceremony for you both to celebrate your enduring love.

As with the Wedding Ceremony, there are four different ceremony packages, each with their own elements. The simplest package includes meet-ups and chats, writing of the ceremony, a commemorative certificate, and a keepsake copy of the ceremony. While the other packages vary with help for speech writing and extra mini-ceremonies you can include in your renewal ceremony like handfasting or sand ceremonies.

I can send you a leaflet with details and I am looking forward to chatting through any ideas you may have.

It is your renewal ceremony and I want to help you have the best day possible.

Funerals

I know this is a hard time and you want to say goodbye to your loved one in a respectful and honest manner. Currently, with Covid-19, you can tell me all about your relative or friend over the phone or by video call.

I can ask you questions and/or you tell me the stories that bring them to life.

The ceremony is about you saying your goodbyes, and I am there to put your thoughts and feelings into words, and try and make the day that little bit easier for you.

The funeral ceremony is written after I have found out as much as I can about your loved one. My aim is to bring calm to your day so I double-check the ceremony with you to make sure it is as you want.

I am an advocate for choosing the music you need or that the deceased loved, and not choosing music you think is expected. If it’s ‘Bat out of Hell’ or Lady Gaga or hardcore house that was their passion, then we play it to honour them.

I also welcome other speakers who have had their lives touched by the individual we are remembering. It all helps to create a more thoughtful and respectful ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, I will give you a keepsake copy of the ceremony with some British wildflower seeds.

Funeral | 02/22/2022 | Wigan Crematorium

We were introduced to Sarah by the funeral directors for our Mum’s funeral in February. Sarah showed understanding, patience and compassion right from the initial meeting we had with her to discuss what we wanted for the eulogy and service, through the back/forth discussions to get everything right, all the way to the closing of the ceremony. She helped us feel at ease at such a difficult time.
It must be very difficult to write and speak with empathy about someone you have never met but Sarah was so professional and put it all together so well.
The keepsake we received afterwards was lovely.
Thank you, Sarah! ♥

Funeral | 12/29/2021 | Wigan Crematorium

I would recommend Sarah to anyone who is thinking of having a Celebrant at a family event. She was professional and courteous throughout and took control of proceedings at my Mum’s funeral service thereby taking pressure off family members at such a difficult time. She captured my Mum’s life in her presentation and it was a joy to listen to even though heartbreaking for myself. Well done Sarah and many, many thanks.

Funeral of our Father

Funeral | 11/30/2021 | St Helens Crematorium

Sarah, acted as Celebrant for our Father’s Funeral Ceremony at St Helens Crematorium November 30, 2021. Prior to the Service Sarah had attended our address and took details for the ceremony. She was courteous and empathetic and showed a caring attention to detail.
At the actual ceremony she was very organised and took control of the proceedings allowing all grieving parties to feel at ease. Her summary of our Father and her tribute was professionally and caringly delivered, this made a very difficult time a lot easier for us all. I would recommend Sarah to officiate in these hard times.
