Hi, I'm Sarah

Hello,

I am an ex-English teacher, mum, gardener, boxset-watching, sci-fi-loving Family and Funeral Celebrant who finds people endlessly fascinating. And my job means I get to ask questions and listen to people’s stories and memories, hopes and dreams, challenges and successes.

Writing ceremonies to help people mark important life events is somewhat of a privilege. It’s all about helping people find the words at a time when their emotions can seem overwhelming.

PS. You don’t have to ask here. You love each other. You want to celebrate or remember that love. We can do that. x

What's my ceremony style?

My style is simple and straightforward with a little bit of occasional weirdness thrown in.

I ask you questions so as to get the stories, the quirks, and the important small things that make a person or a relationship real.

I think it is important to bring humour to a ceremony, even if it is a funeral and only close family are in on the joke.

The aim is to bring calm to your day, so I double-check the ceremony with you every step of the way. This way, we both know it’s the ceremony you want for yourselves and your loved ones.

Why choose Sarah?

Being invited into your family at a time of great fortune or sadness is an honour and, as such, deserves respect, honesty, and kindness.

The ceremony is never about my beliefs or what I want; the ceremony is always about you, your family, and what you hold dear. I think about how I would want my family to be treated at such times, and that is how I treat my couples, my groups, and my families.

I want the ceremony I write to bring you joy, comfort, and calm and for you to remember it for all the best reasons.

What do I offer?

Weddings

My Ideal Couple is probably Gen X or older Millenials. You have your ideas about who you are and want you want pretty sorted.

You’ve been together a while and have decided that now is the time to get wed.

You’ll be more concerned about everyone having a good time, feeling relaxed, and enjoying the ceremony than how it’ll be received on social media.

You may be a bit fraught with the planning and getting your head around what you want with what’s on offer, BUT I am here to help and support you where I can.

My favourite ceremonies involve laughter, honesty, a sense of togetherness for all involved and a relaxed vibe. Any oddities are taken in our stride, from technical difficulties to small children running through the ceremony or big kids chipping in.

The ceremony is obviously a celebration of love, and everyone leaves feeling a happy, warm glow.

Naming Ceremonies

Congratulations on welcoming a new life into your household!

I know the experience can bring untold delights and the odd challenge. Hang on in there!

What better way to introduce your new baby to the world than a Naming Ceremony?

You can promise this wee life how you will bring them up. And get your friends and family to take new roles as Guardians, Watchers, or God Parents.

This is also a lovely time to mark with the planting of a tree or flowers or beginning to look back into your own history, so you have stories from ‘before’ to tell your youngster as they grow up.

Each ceremony is written specifically for your family and includes readings, music, and mini-ceremonies of your choosing. We can include family, friends, and pets in the ceremony, so your little one/s know how loved they are.

At the end of the ceremony, I leave you a keepsake copy so you can share it with your youngster/s as they grow.

Why choose Sarah for your naming ceremony?

A Naming Ceremony is a time for celebration, optimism and hope. By talking with you and learning what you want for your child/ren, I will write a ceremony that brings joy and happiness to you and your attendees. I will help you write vows for your Godparents/Guardians/Watchers or shape the ceremony around your chosen vows.

Oh, and I have many ideas for mini-ceremonies to add something extra to your day.

Renewal of Vows

How super that you have found someone you love and who loves you back AND that you have achieved so much!

A Vow Renewal can be a ceremony that reflects back on your lives together. It celebrates your successes and gives a nod of recognition to the losses. It gives you the opportunity to take all these experiences and renew or recreate your wedding vows for how you are now.

By asking you lots of questions and getting to know you really well, I write a personal and thoughtful ceremony for you both to celebrate your enduring love.

As with the Wedding Ceremony, there are three different ceremony packages, each with its own elements. The simplest package includes meet-ups and chats, writing of the ceremony, and a keepsake copy of the ceremony. While the other packages vary with help for speech writing and Extra Options you can include in your renewal ceremony, like handfasting or sand ceremonies.

I can send you a PDF with details, and I am looking forward to chatting through any ideas you may have.

It is your renewal ceremony, and I want to help you have the best day possible.

Funerals

I know this is a hard time, and you want to say goodbye to your loved one in a respectful and honest manner.

I can ask you questions, and/or you tell me the stories that bring them to life. We can do this in person, over the phone, or online via Zoom, Skype, etc.

The ceremony is about you saying your goodbyes, and I am here to put your thoughts and feelings into words and make the day a little bit easier for you.

The funeral ceremony is written after I have found out as much as I can about your loved one. I aim to bring calm to your day, so I double-check the ceremony with you to ensure it is as you want.

I am an advocate for choosing the music you need or that the deceased loved and not choosing music you think is expected. If it’s ‘Bat out of Hell’, Lady Gaga, or hardcore house that was their passion, then we play it to honour them.

I also welcome other speakers who have had their lives touched by the individual we are remembering. It all helps to create a more thoughtful and respectful ceremony.

At the end of the ceremony, I will give you a keepsake copy of the ceremony with some British wildflower seeds.

Perfect send off for my dad

Rachel Price

Funeral | 03/22/2023 | St Helens Crem

Apologies for this belated review, Sarah. We were very happy to have Sarah acting as celebrant for our dad’s funeral service at St Helens Crem in March. It must be difficult to visit grieving families but Sarah immediately put us at ease when she visited our house to go through all the things we wanted her to get across about Dad in his service. She had a lovely warm manner and was very patient, despite lots of interruptions from us as we remembered something as she was writing. She was happy to do a few redrafts until we got the service just as we wanted and I felt that she understood the type of man our dad had been and how we wanted him to be remembered so I was confident that on the day itself the service would be just right. And it was, which made everything so much easier. Her delivery and tone was just perfect and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.

Funeral | 05/19/2023 | Greenacres

Sarah recently conducted my Father in law’s funeral. She was very calming when she came out to visit us prior to. the funeral, she was very professional yet friendly had us talking about Alan picked lots of key points, then produced a very touching service. People commented on how fitting her spoken words were.
Sarah also had a copy of the service for the immediate family a packet of forget me nots and the great grandchildren each received a keepsake book.
Highly recommended
Thank you Sarah.

Spoke beautifully in honour of our mum

Funeral | 12/04/2023 | Thornton crematorium

I was very glad I chose Sarah as the celebrant at my mum’s funeral. From the outset she was kind, patient and sympathetic. She listened carefully to what we needed and helped us organise how it would all go. On the day, she spoke beautifully and had a calm, caring presence which helped us a lot. She made a difficult day easier and her words sent mum off just how we wanted. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. She’s a lovely, interesting person too, mum would have liked her a lot if she had known her.
