Hi I’m Katherine, an independent celebrant based in South East London but covering the whole of London and the South East. I work with my friend and fellow celebrant Sarah Wanendeya and together we are Root & Branch Celebrants.
What's my ceremony style?
Everybody’s story deserves to be celebrated and told well. However, creating a ceremony either for yourself or a loved one can feel overwhelming. I will work with you in a calm and intuitive way that will cut through the stress, get to the heart of the story and reveal what is important to you or your loved one. This will help me deliver a unique ceremony, in which you or your loved one feel truly represented and understood.

I have a background in story collecting and sharing and have experience of working closely with individuals, heritage community groups and businesses, helping them to tell their stories in fresh and interesting ways. This has given me a unique understanding of the importance of how and why people celebrate key moments in their lives. I’m here to help you understand your choices, to listen to, respect and reflect your story and to ensure that the final ceremony feels completely right for you.
What do I offer?
Weddings
First of all, congratulations! Meeting someone to share your life with is a joyful thing, which deserves to be celebrated. Making sure we end up with your perfect wedding ceremony is a serious business but it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun too. The wonderful thing about a celebrant led wedding is that there are no rules; your wedding can be wherever you want it, however you want it!
This means I don’t have a favourite ceremony type or an ideal couple, just a passion for making your wedding ceremony perfect for you.
At Root & Branch we work hard to really get to know your love story by establishing an open line of communication and sharing of ideas over the weeks and months leading up to your big day. This ensures that the final ceremony is exactly what you’d hoped for, celebrating your unique love story and encapsulating the essence of you, both as individuals and as a couple.

A vow renewal ceremony is a wonderful way to celebrate your continuing love story. An opportunity to view your relationship afresh, to recognise its strengths and confirm your commitment to each other in front of friends and family. I will work hard to really get to know your love story by establishing an open line of communication and sharing of ideas over the weeks and months leading up to the day of your Vow Renewal. This ensures that the final ceremony is exactly what you’d hoped for, celebrating your love story and encapsulating the essence of both you as individuals and as a couple.
Funerals
I work with independent and family run funeral directors who work to a strong ethical code, understand the importance of choice when organising a funeral or memorial service and offer a wide range of services and alternatives for funerals and memorial services including green funerals and natural burials.
What I offer:
– A face to face meeting to guide you through options for the ceremony
– Writing of the eulogy or supporting you to write your own
– The chance to review the ceremony before the day
– Suggestions of readings, poems or music
– Running and delivering the ceremony on the day
– A printed copy of your ceremony.

It’s natural to feel daunted at the prospect of organising a funeral or memorial service, many decisions need to be made at a time when you can feel least able to make them and this can be overwhelming. As an independent celebrant, I help you navigate the options, working with you to create a personalised ceremony which captures and reflects the essence of the person who has died and allows you to say goodbye in a way which works for you.
