Funerals in natural surroundings, intimate wedding celebrations
Member of the Association of Independent Celebrants
Hi, I'm Ruth
I love people’s stories, no two are the same. Happiness and sadness, love and loss, our experiences are unique to us. And so, when you want to mark an occasion, such as becoming a couple, having a child, or the sadness of losing someone you love, you want to do that in a way that’s personal, that reflects who you are and what’s important to you. I love people, I love words, I love music … I’d love to help you celebrate a wedding, welcome a child, or say farewell to someone who has died.
What's my ceremony style?
I’m quietly assured. I’m friendly. I create ceremonies that are touching, delicate, full of beautiful personal details. My ceremonies touch the heart and soul. Whichever ceremony I create and lead for you, I know this is your day, I’ll guide and advise, but I’m at your service.
Why choose Ruth?
I’m professional and reliable, I’m an experienced celebrant, I’m a great organiser and writer. But most of all, I care about people, I’m friendly and open. I’m a good listener, I’ll put you at your ease, and make it as simple as possible to create a ceremony that is perfect for you, whatever the occasion.
What do I offer?
My ideal couple – a couple who want to feel themselves on the day! A couple who want to feel comfortable, yes, you might have their best clothes on, but you want to feel that all the details of the service, the venue you’ve chosen, reflect who you are, and why you love each other. My favourite ceremony type? Well, I do like a small gathering, something relaxed and friendly. If the weather’s kind, an outdoor wedding celebration is lovely, nature really has a way of being able to lift any occasion. But really, it’s your day, I like working with new suggestions and coming up with new ideas.

Renewal of Vows
Why choose Ruth for your renewal of vows?
I’ve helped many families and friends to find a way to say farewell to a loved one. Sometimes the parting is a celebration of a life well lived, sometimes it is tinged with the sadness of difficult relationships, or a life that has come to an end far too soon. Whatever your situation, however you feel, I can lead a ceremony that you feel is appropriate and fitting for the person who has died.
I take funerals for people who are to be cremated, and for people who are to be buried, including at some of the most beautiful natural burial grounds. You may be working with a funeral director or owner of a burial site, in which case, I’m very happy for them to commission me on your behalf, or you can contact me direct. I also provide short services to scatter or inter the ashes of a person who has been cremated. Sometimes families prefer an intimate gathering at the time the person has died, and plan to hold a larger gathering for wider family and friends some time afterwards, when they feel more able to celebrate a life. I’m always delighted to be involved in a thanksgiving service at a later date, when more people can be involved
Why choose Ruth for your funeral?
The families I help often say that I am a calm, reassuring presence, and they value my willingness to listen. They like my attention to detail, after all, a life is made up of details, little moments, so it’s important to capture the essence of a person and to get things right. I write touching, personal accounts of a person’s life, and the difference they made to other people. And, I like to be warm, welcoming and supportive to people at the service … a little kindness and a smile go a long way on a sad day.
