Hi, I'm Sarah

I’m a busy Family Celebrant and so so so very proud to be awarded the 2020 ‘Celebrant of the Year’ in the Corporate Livewire Leeds & West Yorkshire Prestige Guide.

“The judges were impressed with your personal nature, consistency of reviews and overall attentiveness. The passion for what you do really comes across “

I work with families and couples to create ceremonies in keeping with their wishes values and beliefs whether this is to cherish the life of a loved one who has passed away or to celebrate the love of their lives!

I write bespoke ceremonies to say farewell to a loved one who has passed away, help those in their time of need with a Pre-Need Script, reaffirm vows to couples who are celebrating life and love itself or welcoming a newborn into the world. You may have some questions to ask which hopefully I have answered below:

With a celebrant-led wedding, vow renewal or blessing you are absolutely free of the constraints that the legal process enforce on your ceremony. This means you can design a very personal, heartfelt, intimate ceremony in a place and time of your choice. You may opt for something simple with a traditional feel or want to include special and spiritual elements into your ceremony, be it a hand fasting, broom jumping or unity ceremony; you may even be looking to include members of your family or friends into the ceremony.

I have undertaken intense training and in relation to bereavements I have worked extensively with families bereaved by suicide. Not all celebration of life services or semi religious funeral services are held in a crematorium and nor should they be. The choice is yours to provide a backdrop for the most fitting farewell.

Pre-need Funeral Scripts

You may be considering planning your own ceremony and it can be very reassuring to know that your funeral arrangements are taken care of in advance. If you feel that you would like to have your funeral ceremony written whilst you are still living, we can work together to create a script reflecting your exact requirements.

The whole ceremony is taken care of including your music choices, poetry or readings, messages to loved ones and a full eulogy. Once approved by you, a script of the ceremony is then kept by me, a copy is lodged with your chosen funeral director and a copy is sent to you which can be kept with your personal papers or entrusted to a family member for safekeeping. Whilst I cannot guarantee to be available to personally conduct the ceremony when the time comes, I will make every possible effort. I am happy to visit you either at home, hospice or residential care home.

Eulogy Writing Service

Writing a eulogy for a loved one can be a daunting task. It can be hard to find the right words when you are grieving such a loss. It is a celebrant’s job to create the best possible tribute for someone that has died and it can be reassuring to have the help of a professional if you are struggling to know where to start at this difficult time.

Memorial Services and Scattering of Ashes

I also provide bespoke Memorial Services and Ceremonies for the Scattering of Ashes. Please get in touch with me for further details.

What's my ceremony style?

My ceremonies are unique, informal, have a sense of fun with YOU at the very core. I find that even with funeral ceremonies those with a touch of humour, where appropriate, provide a huge amount of comfort for family and friends grieving their loss.

Moreover weddings led by a Civil Wedding Celebrant are becoming increasingly popular because they exercise choice. A ceremony conducted by a professional celebrant provides you with a blank canvas in which to design your own ceremony at a location and time of your choosing. But there are also other reasons why using a professional Celebrant is the perfect choice for you.

You want flexibility to have your wedding during the evening, at sunset, at home in the garden or unlicensed venue of your choice. These are all very personal and romantic.

You want a very personal and bespoke ceremony that may, or not, include some religious content (music and religious references). You may wish to incorporate cultural elements into your ceremony which isn’t allowed at a licensed venue. I have a wealth of resources and ideas to guide you through your options.

Your partner is religious but you are not. By having a celebrant led wedding we can create a ceremony to reflect the wishes of you both as a couple in keeping with each individual’s own religious, spiritual or cultural beliefs.

It’s not your first wedding and you would like to declare your love and commitment amongst loved ones but without the legal bit.

You like the idea of a traditional ceremony but your guest list is increasing by the day and you cannot find a suitable licenced venue within your budget.

You may wish to use symbolic gestures or weave spiritual elements into your ceremony. I have lots of ideas to help you creature your unique ceremony either by way of:

Traditional Handfasting

Jumping the Broom

Unity Candle

Unity Sand Ceremony

Love Letters & Wine

The Marriage Library

and much much more!

Why choose Sarah?

I have been trained to the highest standard and hold the NOCN Diploma in Celebrancy (QCF), as well as studying with Civil Ceremonies Ltd I am registered with UKSOC (United Kingdom Society of Celebrants), The Celebrant Directory and The Natural Death Centre.

I am passionate about people and committed to my celebrant work and love my job. I thrive on putting people at ease right at the beginning of the ceremony and having designed and conducted many family ceremonies I have a wealth of creative ideas meaning that every single ceremony is different – unique – to reflect your journey, values and hopes.

I have a wealth of experience working with a diverse range of people from all walks of life through probation, social work, adult education and as a local authority Wedding Celebrant Registrar. Born in Huddersfield I am proud to have lived in Yorkshire all my life.

I have ideas galore, suggestions and resources and will work with you to create the perfect ceremony. You may already have a clear idea of what you want or be starting entirely from scratch. I won’t tell you what you need; I will listen to what you want.

My style is friendly, informal and approachable but I’m also very highly organised. It goes without saying that you and your beloved will be at the very heart of the ceremony but your guests will also be included too feeling like they are taking part in something truly magical.

If you choose for us to work together you will be involved as part of the creative process through regular contact via personal meetings, FaceTime or Skype, so you’ll feel a real sense of partnership as we develop your special day together.

I’m a mum, a daughter, a wife, a best friend and like you I spin a lot of plates to keep everybody happy – including the dog!

Every June I volunteer at Glastonbury Festival and I’ll be there ensuring the traders are complying with the increasingly strict recycling policy – and rightly so and if they’re not……..well…… they will be by the end of the Festival!

Not only are people my passion but the environment and it’s wildlife too. I’ve just subscribed to the Woodland Trust to help protect our woodlands for the generations to come.

I will:

Listen to what you want, not tell you what you need.

Put you at ease.

Bring out your best!

Add a pinch of sparkle.

Be a calmer of nerves.

Explore details with you that you probably haven’t even thought of yet.

If you’re like me then you have a sense of fun, you love life, the planet, the natural world and you simply embrace life and all it has to offer.

Your cup will be half full, even brimming over at times and you value the importance of friendships that keeps us grounded and both gives us wings.

I look forward to hearing from you when you are ready, in the meantime breathe deep, jump in and float down the river of happiness!

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your conducting of the service to remember my dad last Friday 13th.

There seemed to be a unanimous feeling, that it is what my dad would have wanted and that it struck the right note. You were instrumental in achieving that outcome. We are very grateful for your involvement.

Thank you and best wishes. KH

Morning Sarah,

My family and l would like to thank you for your contribution to our mothers funeral yesterday.
It was beautifully read and made the day a little easier for us all to hear the kindly read words of her life.
It was a beautiful calm and very dignified funeral that we all very much appreciated.
Thank you Sarah.

A Beautiful Wedding

Wedding | 02/10/2020 | York

Sarah recently carried out a handfasting ceremony for my new wife and I (2nd October 2020). From our very first introduction she kept us informed of progress. On the day of our ceremony we’d had to halve the numbers due to these ridiculous covid measures. This had upset my wife and I greatly as we’d had to choose between friends and family. However Sarah arranged a zoom meeting so that those who couldn’t attend got to see our wedding.

The service itself was beautiful and fun, she even got in on a joke with our son’s.
Everyone attending said the ceremony was brilliant.

I’d highly recommend everybody to use Sarah’s service. Spot on!
