Hi, I'm Chris
Let me introduce myself, my name is Chris Cunningham, I live with my partner on the south coast of England. My journey to becoming a celebrant started over 18 years ago.
After the sudden death of my father, it fell upon me to organise his funeral. Believing the traditional path of a service officiated by a member of the church was the only one open to us. The officiant got my fathers name wrong twice, in truth, he had never met my father or any family member.
Shortly after, I attended a celebrant led ‘Ceremony of Life’ for Jack an ex-colleague. A joyous event celebrating a life well lived. A few years later, I arranged a ‘Celebration of Life’ for my mother that honoured her life as well as being a positive experience for all in attendance.
Since training as a celebrant, I now believe anything and everything is possible, as such I would be happy to discuss your requirements.
What's my ceremony style?
” Anything and Everything is Possible”, as well as listening to and discussing your requirements I am also willing to make constructive and creative suggestions.
Why choose Chris?
The decision to train as a celebrant having previously worked as a social worker for s number of years was a significant milestone in my life. The experience that my profession had equipped me with, working with people at difficult times in their life, listening with empathy, helping them make decisions as well as giving me an understanding of complex family dynamics has fitted in perfectly with the role of celebrant.
My celebrant training also covered the skills and knowledge required to officiate Weddings and Naming Ceremonies and associated life events. Over several years, I have worked with many families as a celebrant to honour the milestones at the ‘Start of Life’, the ‘Joining of Life’ and the ‘End of Life’.
As your celebrant, I will offer you the opportunity to ‘own’ your day, to create memories that will stay with you for all the right reasons and know that your wishes have been listened to.
What do I offer?

Funerals
My philosophy is that every person is an individual, as such they have an individual story to tell. They have owned their own life experiences and as such it is now the role of their nearest and dearest to honour that life.
I want to work with people to enable them to feel they have done their best to honour the wishes and feeling and the life of their loved one.
My experience of assisting families to ‘Celebrate the Life’ of their loved one spans many years.
I have during that time had the honour of officiating at both crematoria and burial grounds.
Particular experience in celebrating the life of people who have died because of suicide,
Children with life limiting conditions.
Children who were stillborn.
Members of the LGBT+ community

Because I am a calm and ‘safe pair of hands’ who has experienced and understands grief, who as such will guide you through a ceremony that truly honours the life of your loved one.
I will listen and not judge, in the past I have been able to mediate discussions and decisions with families where dynamics have been difficult.

Celebration of Life
We can’t thank Chris enough for the time and trouble she took to craft Mum’s Celebration of Life. It was a real tribute to her long life and left us all with a good feeling that we had given her a good send off.
