Opulent Blooms and Heritage Charm: Inside This Lavish Multicultural Wedding at Grantley Hall in the Yorkshire Dales.
When Samir and Hajar’s love story began in Morocco, neither could have predicted how their lives would beautifully intertwine across continents. After five years together, they celebrated their union with a spectacular ceremony at the historic Grantley Hall in Yorkshire, where tradition met contemporary flair under the guidance of theatrical celebrant Ally Cutler.
A Spectacular Setting
The grounds of Grantley Hall, a 17th-century Palladian mansion nestled in the Yorkshire Dales, provided an enchanting backdrop for the couple’s celebration. The outdoor ceremony space was transformed by Red Floral with a stunning floral backdrop that complemented the estate’s natural beauty. But it wasn’t just the setting that made this ceremony special—it was how the couple chose to make their entrance.
A Grand Entrance: Banging the drum for love
While the bride and bridesmaids arrived by car, the groom and guests were led to the ceremony space by two Dhol drummers, dancing their way to their seats after welcome drinks. This vibrant entrance set the tone for a ceremony that would beautifully blend cultures, traditions, and personal touches.
The Ceremony: Where Cultures Unite
Coordinated by Kate Park Events, the ceremony began with an innovative modern twist—a group selfie moment. “We invited all guests to take selfies and share their well-wishes before Hajar’s arrival,” Ally explains. “It was a wonderful way to ensure the bride didn’t miss a moment and got to see everyone’s excitement through their messages.”
The ceremony thoughtfully incorporated elements from both families’ cultures. While Hajar’s family couldn’t attend from Marrakech, their heartfelt message was read aloud, bridging the physical distance. Samir’s father delivered “A Parent’s Advice,” offering wisdom and humour for a lasting marriage—a moment that perfectly captured the family’s blessing of their union.

Meaningful Rituals
The couple incorporated several meaningful rituals that symbolized their union:
- A Rose Ceremony: Fifteen ivory roses were distributed to guests, while Samir and Hajar each had a red rose. Family members placed their roses in shared vases while embracing the couple, symbolizing the joining of families.
- A Sweet Ceremony: Guests participated in a traditional blessing by sharing sweets, accompanied by “Dancing in the Moonlight.”
- A Ceremonial Signing: Hajar and Samir had already legally married. This ceremony was a celebration for their friends and family to share in their joy. Their vows were beautifully printed for display in their home, creating a lasting reminder of their promises.
Music and Moments
Musician Will Scott created custom arrangements for key moments:
- Processional: “How Long Will I Love You”
- Ceremony: “Rather Be” and “All of Me”
- Signing: “Better Together”
- Recessional: “Sandstorm”
The fun carried on long into the wedding celebrations with guests wearing Groovy H+S loveheart sunglasses as the party continued inside.
A Love Story Years in the Making
“Their story is one of courage and faith,” Ally shares. “Both Samir, a successful cricketer, and Hajar, a literature lover with a beautiful soul, had to turn their lives upside down to be together. Their different backgrounds created not obstacles, but opportunities to build something unique.”
The ceremony reflected this unique journey—vibrant and colourful, complete with sunglasses and drummers, yet grounded in meaningful traditions and heartfelt moments. As one guest remarked, “That was the best ceremony ever. I loved their story. So much I didn’t know!”
A Bond Beyond Ceremony
What makes a celebrant-led ceremony truly special isn’t just the day itself but the journey leading up to it. When Ally first met Samir and Hajar through wedding planner Kate Park Events, the couple wasn’t familiar with what a celebrant could offer. “They wondered why I was asking them so many questions!” Ally recalls with a laugh.
But what began as simple ceremony planning evolved into something much more meaningful. Over numerous meetings, dinners, and lunches, Ally took the time to truly understand their story. A memorable four-hour round trip to visit Grantley Hall became an unexpected opportunity for deeper connection. “We spent the entire journey sharing stories and getting to know each other,” Ally shares. “It’s during these unplanned moments that you really discover the heart of a couple’s relationship.”
This investment in getting to know Samir and Hajar allowed Ally to craft a ceremony that perfectly balanced their wishes for both humour and gravitas. The result was a celebration that felt authentically them—a perfect mix of fun and profound meaning that had guests both laughing and wiping away tears.
“Ally genuinely cares about the couple getting married and sees it as more than just a job,” Hajar wrote in her review. “We had multiple meetings where she asked us loads of questions about our relationship and ended up writing the most incredible, emotional account about our journey as a couple. My husband and I surely see her more like family now.”
It’s this kind of deep personal connection that transforms a beautiful ceremony into an unforgettable celebration of love. As Ally puts it, “Where love takes centre stage, magic happens.”
