From start to finish at your wedding ceremony, your music should be considered and reflect the two of you as a couple. Whether it's being played live or in the background, your wedding ceremony music should be ambient and fit with the vibe of your wedding day.
Today, Janni Knox, a bespoke celebrant from Northern Ireland shares her favourite wedding ceremony songs for signing the register.
Here Comes the Sun ~ The Beatles
Janni says; "Isn’t this one of those songs that nearly everyone sings along to? Whilst this is also a popular exit song, it works really well as the background music whilst the marriage register is being signed, and also an indication that the formalities have been completed and soon it will be time for the informal celebration to begin."
To Make You Feel My Love ~ Adele
Janni says; "There’s something about this song that simply gives me chills, I love the pace and the drama of this for an amazing entrance. If you overlook the one line “I know you haven’t made your mind up yet” (because hopefully if they are signing their marriage certificate the decision has been well and truly and happily made!) the rest of the lyrics are pretty much perfect about promises for the future."
Songbird ~ Fleetwood Mac
Janni says; "Oh the chills, I love this song and the sentiment repeated again and again, “I love you, I love you, I love you like never before”. I rest my case. I think this song works well for all the romantics amongst us."
The Voyage ~ Christy Moore
Janni says; "Coming from Northern Ireland, a spot of traditional music can feel really authentic and Moore’s version of The Voyage, a very famous modern Irish classic is beautiful, reflecting on love, marriage, and family. Perfect for signing the register too, with “We signed on together, we coupled our fate."
What a Wonderful World ~ Louis Armstrong
Janni says; "The philosophy of this song gets me every time. I think this is particularly good for an outdoor wedding with so many references to nature (and beginning with “I see trees of green, red roses too; I see them bloom for me and you…” and the bridge says, “I see friends shaking hands, saying “how do you do?” They’re really saying “I love you”). That seems so perfect for a wedding (or certainly it did in pre-Covid times when handshakes were more of a thing). "
Janni believes individual choices are the perfect recipe for creating a non-religious ceremony full of love and laughter. Her ideal couples are those who are looking for a celebration that is a little bit out of the ordinary, get in touch with her if this is you!
Janni says; "I design your personalised ceremony in the way you want. My philosophy is that since we have one life that we know of, we should celebrate and enjoy all the important milestones along the way. I’m here to help you mark your special moments and to share them with the people you love. There are no cookie-cutter boring ceremonies here. I write each ceremony from scratch and make it all about you, and what’s important to you and your loved ones."
