I worked in financial services for 36 years and truly believed that I would see my working life out within that arena. Over the years I have dabbled with plenty of jobs on the side to help pay the bills, keep me occupied or to try new things; bar work, catering, home party selling, youth work, scouting, the list is not exhaustive! However, the banking industry was the mainstay throughout.
As many people know, your life can change very quickly and unexpectedly. Following some key changes at work, together with the unexpected loss of my mum and the need to care for my dad, I decided to leave my corporate role and take some time out for a while to focus on family. I knew my working days weren’t over, but I also knew it was time for something different.
I believe that my experiences in life have given me a much deeper knowledge, understanding and empathy towards people and situations. I've been married since 1998, a mum to my two sons who are now young adults, progressed a varied career, cared for my parents who were married for 62 years, dealt with serious illnesses, lost loved ones, treasured time with family and friends, look after our dogs and completed a few charity bike rides; I’ve packed plenty in so far and plan to continue to do so as I grow older!
When I asked people who know me well to describe me, they came back with; welcoming, patient, funny, creative, dedicated, empathetic and an amazing listener.
Getting to know someone takes time, so I thought I may share some mantras with you which resonate strongly with me and can give you an idea of what is important to me:

Treasure your memories while you are making them;
One day you will be just a memory to someone, do your best to be a good one;
Judging others says more about you than it does about them;
Comparison is the thief of joy;
Dress for the kind of day you want to have!

For me, becoming a professional celebrant is a wonderful opportunity. I think people are fascinating. I love finding out about their life stories and what makes them who they are and the impact they have on others or who has influenced them. So, getting to meet people and work with them during life’s key moments is a privilege in my book and one which demands great care and commitment.
As well as loving people, especially their diversity and uniqueness, I am very organised and reliable which are key qualities for celebrants. Nobody wants their celebrant to be late, unprepared or turn up with the wrong information.
I love writing and appreciate that not everyone is comfortable writing and/or delivering a eulogy, a speech, an affirmation, or any other important message. I will work with you to help you put your thoughts into words and you may choose to say them. Alternatively, you can provide the words but the thought of standing up in front of others may be terrifying and you would prefer me to do that. Either way, it doesn’t matter because every celebration will be tailored and perfect for you and your family and together, we will celebrate you or your loved one beautifully.
