The Institute of Professional Celebrants

Hi, I'm George

I live in beautiful East Devon near the sea with my husband of nearly a decade, James, and our gorgeous girls Dahlia and Polly. As well as being a creative and independent celebrant, I am also an abstract artist and I absolutely love bright colour!

One thing that became clearer to me throughout the events of 2020 is the huge impact our relationships with each other have on our wellbeing, how gathering and ceremony are part of what make us human. I felt “a call” to celebrancy and it feels a beautiful thing to be able to do, to facilitate these gatherings, to be part of the most special or impactful times in people’s lives.

I love people’s stories and can’t wait to help you tell yours, whether it’s your love story, a story of a life or the journey to welcoming a new member of your family.

What's my ceremony style?

I am a creative celebrant with an artist’s eye and an empath’s ear. I love to listen to people’s stories and help them tell those stories in a beautiful and meaningful way, a way that is true to them. I have a dry sense of humour and generous nature, I like to think I bring the best out in people and help them feel at ease. I am professional yet relaxed, informal and never “cookie cutter”, you will always get a unique ceremony from me.
In many ways my path has always been leading towards becoming a celebrant and I am so looking forward to meeting you and working alongside you to tell your story.

Why choose George?

I am passionate and love what I do as a celebrant. When a family or couple choose me, you are not getting someone who just cuts and pastes a new set of names into a ceremony. You will be choosing someone that values people for the unique place they take in the world and a dedication to understanding that individuality. As an artist I see beauty everywhere and as a celebrant I see that in the people I work with and share their vision for their perfect ceremony, gathering with those that are most important to them for love, for a welcoming hello or for a meaningful “see you later”.

What do I offer?

I love to hear stories of love and I especially love to tell stories of love. As a celebrant it is an absolute honour to share in this massive moment in a couple’s life. On my own wedding day, we focused a lot on the reception. But the part that stays with me nearly ten years on is the ceremony and how proud I was to be stood there in front of these people I loved and saying the most important words in the world; “I love you. You are it for me. This is forever”. I cannot wait to create a ceremony for you that will stay with you long after the cake has been eaten, the guest’s hangovers have subsided and you are arguing over the washing up! I believe this commitment is one that is beautiful and sacred and my wedding ceremonies truly celebrate that.

Weddings can cost a lot of money. But for me the magic isn’t in the designer shoes your bridesmaid is wearing or the photo booth at the reception. The magic, the “even made Uncle John tear up” moment, that’s in the ceremony. It’s in the two of you looking at each other, saying words written especially for you (or by you) and showing everyone that you two are “it” for each other. You two are the magic. What I do is help bring that magic to the fore and write a ceremony that really makes your story shine. A ceremony that no one has seen before, that is totally personalised to you two. I can help you choose what is right for your ceremony; will it include a special ritual or something to recognise your children? Will it be something simple and sweet? I help you to create YOUR day.

Why choose George for your wedding?

I am your celebrant if you want unique. I am your celebrant if you value creativity and individuality. I am your celebrant if you want to be heard and not have ideas pushed on you. I am your celebrant because I will be as pumped for your day as many of your nearest and dearest! I will deliver your ceremony with real heart. Weddings are so exciting to plan, but there are a lot of shiny things that distract us from what is ultimately the most important thing: you and your partner. Let’s make your day truly about you.

Renewal of Vows

Why choose George for your renewal of vows?

Funerals and memorials are very personal and it can be daunting to trust someone to deliver a service that is true to the person you have lost. Working closely with you, I am able to write a truly unique ceremony to honour the life of your loved one. As an independent celebrant my loyalties are to you and to what you feel is the right way to mark the life of that special person.

I offer a creative take on a traditional service. I can help you tell your loved one’s story and really celebrate who they were. Working alongside you, I will write a ceremony that lets their personality shine and is absolutely true to them, not “cut and paste” or inserting their name to a pre written script. I will help you with music, readings, rituals or anything else you may want to include. It doesn’t have to be a somber and grey occasion if what you really want is to remember a life well lived rather than a sad goodbye.

Why choose George for your funeral?

If you are looking for a sensitive and present celebrant, someone that will really listen to what you want and not make assumptions about you or the person that has died, I am your celebrant. I will support you with an empathetic ear and together we will come up with a ceremony that really does your loved one justice, whether that be a loud and fun celebration of life or simple and respectful “see you later”.
