The Inspiration
"Allowing couples in England & Wales to be able to have outdoor wedding ceremonies was a glimmer of positive change amidst unprecedented times in the wedding industry, opening the door to allow alternative, personal, spontaneous & budget-friendly outdoor wedding celebrations to increase. I wanted the theme & story told by our styled shoot to be bright & hopeful of positive changes to outdoor wedding ceremonies in the UK. It also illustrates a rise in fun, personal and intimate ceremonies being conducted by celebrants. The shoot was photographed outdoors in an orchard at a recently licensed family-owned, Dairy House Farm on the Somerset levels."
“The main story was an intimate outdoor wedding ceremony conducted at sunset by a celebrant. The Somerset Levels is an area designated as having natural character. It also enjoys amazing sunsets! For the styling with a slight picnic/festival vibe due to Glastonbury Tor being so close by. Vibrant sunsets inspired our colour scheme for this, and we used an array of vivid pinks & orange, with hints of yellow & blue-grey.”
“The flowers of course followed the same theme. We used peonies & hydrangeas as the dominant florals, these were then complimented by in-season foliage that was locally foraged by the owner of Dairyhouse Farm & Flowermouse Floristry. The cake was then made with the natural flowers as inspiration.”
“Sustainability was the main priority when it came to choosing the dress which we got from Bridal Reloved in Dorchester and to complete the brides look we went for natural and unstructured hair and makeup. It's the perfect look for an outdoor wedding ceremony”
“The family that owns this beautiful outdoor wedding venue also featured in our theme to produce an authentic wedding day with a family feel. The dinner service we used was an old family heirloom of mine and all the decorative items were handmade by small businesses. Framed pictures of absent family members hung in the trees, which completed the warm and homely vibe of the day.”
“The delicious catering served up on individual grazing boards had locally sourced goodies such as Somerset cheeses, locally made chutneys & cold meats from the surrounding farms. The gorgeous individual handmade and hand-painted cakes were created by Tib Grieve at the local Little Buttercup Cakery.”
“We staged a handfast ceremony and to celebrate the end of the day our bride & groom jumped the broom which was backlit by an amazing sunset! With fairy lights and flickering candles, the evening was finished off with a small intimate family meal, enjoyed under the stars.”
The wonderful Claire of Claire The Celebrant was the celebrant for this beautifully styled inspiration, we hear what she has to say about it...
As a celebrant why do you love this type of wedding?
"I love being outdoors so for me it's perfection. Outdoor weddings are gorgeous, they just feel freer in every way! The breeze on your skin and the sun kissing your cheeks as you say your vows, what could possibly be better? The lighting is magical and you can really go to town on your styling. You don't come across the restrictions you would from indoor venues. For instance, the great doors used for this ceremony as a backdrop would have been a no-no in a regular wedding venue. The whimsical theme at this ceremony couldn't be recreated in an indoor venue, it just wouldn't feel the same inside the confines of 4 walls. For me as a celebrant, having these surroundings as my workspace is amazing!"
As a celebrant what can you bring to this type of wedding?
"As with all of my ceremonies, I bring enthusiasm, fresh ideas, imagination and creativity. I can offer to connect couples with suppliers I have used and will always blend with the theme if required...any excuse for a new dress!"
What advice would you give to people wanting this type of ceremony?
"Just be mindful of rain, if it concerns you, have a backup plan...be it under canvas or making sure there is a room big enough to hold your ceremony at the wedding location. Don't let the rain put you off though, think how great and unique your photos will be!"
