Hi, I'm Sian
I love working creatively with people. After over 30 years in arts and event management I followed my desire to work in a personal, creative and direct way with individuals to make tailor-made memorable ceremonies for important life moments.
With a degree in social history and anthropology I have long been fascinated in how people individually and collectively mark life’s rites of passage. I am committed to supporting people in coming together to celebrate, support and bear witness to significant life events. As a mother and grandmother, love and care for family is central to my life.
In an increasingly secular society we have lost the ‘template’ for ritual afforded by the church – but we haven’t lost our human need for it .
What's my ceremony style?
My style is warm and very human, I am 100% reliable but I’m not overly stiff or formal. My whole aim is to put you at ease and to make you feel confident in what we create together. On the day you can feel relaxed, trusting me to lead your ceremony with heart.
Why choose Sian?
My professional life has been spent working creatively and collaboratively with people, building relationships and good connections. I know that each family is different and it’s often not easy to keep everybody happy. Together we will find a way to make the best ceremony for you that brings everyone together. I offer a good listening ear, a safe pair of hands and a warm heart. As I am new to The Celebrant Directory I have few reviews, please see testimonials on my website here: https://magpieceremonies.co.uk/testimonials A big thank you to my lovely families for these kind words.
What do I offer?
I love learning about your unique story as a couple – how you would like that told is paramount to creating a memorable ceremony. My style is warm and very human , I am 100% reliable but I’m not overly stiff or formal. I love making relationships with my couples, creating something unique to them that they are excited about and that really reflects and celebrates their love for each other. We’ll also talk about how to create a special ceremonial space.
In our initial meeting I will listen to what’s important to you individually and as a couple. We’ll discuss what elements you’d like to include in the ceremony : pieces of writing, songs, poems, music, lyrics, passages from books – I can also make suggestions if you need inspiration.
We’ll talk about what rituals you might like to include, e.g. hand fasting, candle lighting, ring blessings, or we can create one especially for you.
Talking about important people you’d like to be involved in the ceremony is key as well. There are many ways your family, friends, children or even pets can contribute to the ceremony.
My whole aim is to put you at ease and to make you feel confident in what we create together. On the day you can feel relaxed, trusting me to lead your ceremony with heart.
Why choose Sian for your wedding?
With a professional background of over 30 years working in the arts and making live events I understand about the ‘theatre’ of the occasion, and how to make an event really special. We’ll talk through all the ways we could do this – sharing ideas and working out which ones are the best. I will suggest ways we can elevate the ceremony with ritual and involve your guests – giving it emotional depth as well as making it memorably fun and truly loving.
How wonderful and important to come together as a family or community to greet and celebrate new life. If you are a Christian a christening is significant and appropriate, but what if you don’t have a specific faith, or no spiritual beliefs at all? I think it’s so important that we come together to mark and celebrate such a significant life and family event. Individuals, families and communities need shared ceremony and ritual to mark these moments.
Whether you want an indoor or outdoor ceremony, for a small or big extended family – we will work out what is right for you and your child. Live music or singing can be incorporated into the ceremony – I can offer suggestions for readings or poems and will support those who’d like to read but feel nervous.
Why choose Sian for your naming ceremony?
I love involving people in the ceremony and rituals, and I will discuss with you the ways we could do this, finding something that’s absolutely right for your family. I will work closely with you to create a wholly unique and memorable occasion that truly reflects the individual being celebrated and welcomed into their family and the world. I am a mum and a granny – I have made different ceremonies to welcome each of these children..
Renewal of Vows
Why choose Sian for your renewal of vows?
“At the start of this process I thought the funeral was just something that had to be got out of the way. Instead with your thought and care, it has been a very healing process for me.” This is why I love what I do, knowing that this can make a positive difference to those who are hurting. When we lose a loved one, our world changes forever. I will listen and support you in creating a beautiful and unique funeral.
Funerals are sad occasions, but there can be joy as well as sorrow, laughter as well as tears. I want you to feel that you have given your loved one a send off to be proud of, one that truly reflects their life. My style is warm and very human, I believe we need to be tender and kind, to look after each other at this time.
We’ll consider what music, poetry and readings will truly reflect the person who has died, and what rituals might add depth to the ceremony. If friends or family wish to speak at the service I will support them and ensure their words flow smoothly as part of the overall ceremony. I’ll send you a draft copy of the service before the day for your approval, a final digital copy for sharing and a presentation copy for safe keeping afterwards.
I especially like making ‘candle bowls’ that are unique to each ceremony that incorporate elements important to the person who has died. There’s pictures of some I have made on my Sian Allen Celebrant Facebook page.
Why choose Sian for your funeral?
People do not realise how much flexibility and choice there is around funerals, I’ll help you to make the best service you can. I believe that a good funeral is an important part of the grieving process, and am committed to helping grieving families to make the best possible ceremony they can. I love it when families and friends contribute and participate and I will support you in considering how this might happen.
Creating and planning the funerals for my parents made me fully appreciate the importance of shared ceremonies, and I decided to train professionally as a funeral celebrant.

Happy and relaxed outdoor naming ceremony
Thank you for a lovely relaxed but meaningful ceremony to welcome and name our son. It could have been tricky outdoors but I loved the spot you suggested with the hills behind us and the stream beside, and then incorporating that stream into the ceremony. Writing biodegradable messages was a great way to involve all ages. We aren’t church goers or Christians, so a christening would have been irrelevant. This was personal and memorable.
Gordon was my stepfather, a craftsman, woodworker, gardener and someone who cherished life to the full. He and my mother were together for 34 years and he reached the grand age of 96. Sian stepped in late in the day to conduct his funeral at Roucan Loch Crematorium and under the difficult circumstances of Covid restrictions provided our small gathering in the open air with a caring, thoughtful and inclusive ceremony. It gave us all much comfort and provided Gordon with a simple send off that I know he would have appreciated. A big thanks to Sian for her sensitivity, realism and thoroughly professional service.
A truly wonderful tribute
At the most difficult time of life when losing a loved one, in my case, my lovely dad, myself and my family were so relieved to have Sian Allen support us throughout, in helping us understand and put together a meaningful funeral event. Sian is an inspirational person, who can use her creativity along with her compassion to seamlessly create a ceremony that is personal, appropriate and moving. She spent a lot of time talking to members of the family, putting them at their ease, listening and advising in equal part, gathering stories, information and anecdotes about my dad, resulting in a wonderful tribute on the day. I would recommend Sian highly for funerals and ceremonies for significant life events.
