Do we exchange rings and vows again during the ceremony?
Can we involve our children in the Renewal of Vows service?
Will we meet our celebrant before the service?
Will we meet our celebrant before the renewal of vows ceremony? Yes! We believe this an important part of crafting your perfect day and something we strongly recommend. Most celebrants will arrange this themselves as standard, and suggest an initial consultation for you to meet, and perhaps a meeting before the ceremony as a minimum.
If your celebrant lives too far for a face to face meeting (for example, if you plan to hold your renewal of vows ceremony abroad), you could meet them over Skype/Facebook/WhatsApp call before deciding: this is something we’ve all become accustomed to in 2020 and is the next best way of connecting!
Although this is not your wedding ceremony, it is still a very important day. You need to be confident and comfortable that this is the right person for the job. You need to trust that they will understand you and help you create a day that is unforgettable.
What questions should we ask a celebrant before making our decision?
This is your chance to get to know your potential celebrant so that you can decide whether they are the right person to lead this special day.
A few questions that you may want to ask potential celebrants include:
- Why did you become a celebrant in the first place?
- What is your style of ceremony?
- What qualifications do you have?
- How long have you been a celebrant? What is your background?
- How many ceremonies have you conducted?
- What are your fees (including any additional costs)?
If you are planning on including any more ‘unusual’ elements in the ceremony (such as a symbolic ritual) it is worth checking with the celebrant first whether this is something they have experience in.
You will be led by both your head and heart; do you believe this person can head the ideal renewal of vows ceremony for you?
How many celebrants should I meet before deciding who to choose?
Your renewal of vows ceremony is so personal, and so is the answer to this question; essentially, there is no right or wrong answer.
If possible, meet your wedding Celebrants face-to-face before deciding. Some couples will meet a handful of celebrants before deciding, others will fall in love with the very first celebrant that they meet.
Trust your instinct.
Is it important to choose a celebrant that lives close to the venue?
This really depends on you.
Some celebrants will add an extra charge once their travel surpasses a certain distance; this is therefore something you will need to keep in mind. Also, if your celebrant lives too far away, it may be difficult (or impossible) to meet them beforehand.
Saying that, if you have your heart set on a certain celebrant – and they don’t live close to the venue – it shouldn’t get in the way of your decision.
